00:00And Nick, when you were at the Ministry of Defence investigating UFOs, I mean, did you think that perhaps in your lifetime the day would come when, I know we're not there yet and I'm not getting ahead of myself, but did you think perhaps the day would come in your lifetime that we would see and discover life forms on another planet?
00:17I thought so, yes. I mean, unless we thought there was something almost literally magical in a sort of Harry Potter way about planet Earth, you know, and life was unique, it seemed to me that the laws of physics were going to be the same in the observable universe and chemistry and such like.
00:38And the fact that even though this planet, I mean, 124 light years is an unimaginable distance for us, but yet in cosmic terms, it's right on our doorstep.
00:48And so the implication would be if life exists here on Earth and just 124 light years away, then then, yeah, there should be other life out there.
01:00And given the age of the universe and the rate of star formation, it's intriguing to speculate that there could be, if that life has evolved into something more complex like us, there could be civilizations out there that might be a billion more years ahead of us.
01:18And that's a really interesting thought and perhaps a little bit of a scary one, too.
01:22But.
