00:00At times during this election campaign it's been remarked on that both leaders have seemed
00:06reluctant to engage with voters in large crowds but today Peter Dutton met them by the thousands
00:12in two events. The morning began at a church in Punchbowl, Maronite Catholic service for
00:17Good Friday with thousands of worshippers. Peter Dutton mingled among them as he processed
00:22into the church. Next it was straight off to the Sikh games, another large community
00:27event here in Bankstown where Peter Dutton wandered among the crowd for upwards of half
00:31an hour. He spoke to the event organisers and shook a number of hands but as you'd expect
00:36in this large crowd it wasn't all a positive reception. A few heckles from young voters
00:40as Peter Dutton walked along, plenty of friendly reception as well. On a day the political
00:46hostilities were largely ceased. Anthony Albanese's only event for the day was a dog walk with
00:51Jerome Laxail, the Labor member for Bennelong. Peter Dutton had these two quite big events
00:57a busy day but didn't take a press conference or any other questions on a day that both
01:01sides have agreed is for the cessation of political hostilities. But you can expect the contest
01:06to resume over the coming days with early voting looming on Tuesday. And it's multicultural
01:11communities like this, Sydney's Sikh community and it's Lebanese community with whom Peter
01:15Dutton has mingled today that will be important to his efforts to break through not just in the
01:20west of Sydney but in the outskirts of Melbourne and all over the country. Voters like these are
01:25traditionally Labor voters. Peter Dutton will need to change that around if he's to win this election.
