00:00Okay, Spencer, Trump is doing something about it.
00:03Why didn't President Biden do something about it?
00:05He's a bit late.
00:06As I say, President Biden did.
00:07He improved the efficiency of the Social Security Department and made sure that it did work
00:11better for people.
00:12And by and large, it actually does work amazingly well.
00:15Those checks go out.
00:17The people who are entitled to them receive them reliably month after month after month.
00:22And if they have a problem until recently, they'd be able to get somebody on the phone.
00:25They might have to wait.
00:26Now, under the current plan, they won't be able to get somebody on the phone at all.
00:30They might be required to come in person using a walker or a wheelchair, as we've seen happening.
00:38This whole idea that somehow the entitlement programs are riven with waste, fraud, and
00:44abuse is a real hobby horse that's been around for decades.
00:48Now this, again, doesn't mean that these systems shouldn't be made more efficient or that we
00:52should not address things like the coming shortfall in the Social Security Trust Fund.
00:56But every time people go looking to find this mythical monster of enormous waste, fraud,
01:01and abuse in the federal government, they don't find it.
01:04They will find inefficiency.
01:06And there are ample opportunities to reform systems.
01:09And this has been pursued under President Obama's administration as well, and notably
01:13under President Clinton.
01:14This is one of the things Vice President Gore was in charge of with the whole Reinventing
01:19Government initiative.
01:20So there is potential there for improvement.
01:21There always is.
01:22It's not what we're seeing here.
01:23It was not what we're seeing here.
01:24It was not what we're seeing here.
