Scientists at the University of Cambridge say they've found the strongest evidence yet of life outside the Solar System. Using NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, the team detected large amounts of two gases previously only seen in biological processes happening on Earth on a water planet 124 light-years away.

00:00A groundbreaking discovery has been made on a planet 124 light-years away.
00:06The presence of two gases there is seen as the strongest evidence yet of life outside Earth.
00:12We have found evidence for possible biological activity on an exoplanet.
00:21We have found signs of biosignature molecules, either DMS or DMDS or both,
00:28both of which are produced uniquely by life here on Earth.
00:33The planet, named K2-18b, is two and a half times the size of Earth,
00:39and its surface is completely covered by ocean.
00:43Large amounts of the gases were detected by a team at Cambridge University
00:47using NASA's James Webb Space Telescope.
