Russian President Vladimir Putin met with former Hamas hostages at the Kremlin, including Aleksandr Troufanov and his family, who were abducted during the October 7, 2023 attack. Troufanov spent 498 days in captivity before being released in 2025. Putin praised the reunion and vowed to continue efforts to secure the release of the remaining hostages in Gaza. Russia’s longstanding ties with Palestinian factions played a role in the negotiations. With dozens still held captive, this symbolic meeting raises questions about Moscow’s expanding diplomatic influence in Middle East peace efforts.

00:00This is an interpretation provider, so if you need it, good evening.
00:10I would like to as you need to finally talk to one another to be back at your home.
00:30From the outside I would like to say good evening.
00:59Good evening. Yes, there is an interpretation provider, so if you need it, good evening.
01:06I would like to congratulate you and you on your having this opportunity to finally talk to one another to be back at your home.
01:21Unfortunately, your father is no longer with you.
01:26It's a tragedy. Probably this is not the place to talk about it.
01:31Thank God you are safe and sound.
01:35I am not going to give any political assessments to the current developments, but everything that has happened to you is a tragedy.
01:46But the fact that you have managed to get back to freedom is due to the fact that Russia for many years have been having good stable relations with the people of Palestine, with representatives of different organizations.
02:05So I would like to offer thanks to the political leadership of Hamas for them accommodating our request and making this humanitarian gesture.
02:18And I would like to offer my congratulations on your liberation.
02:23Certainly we are going to do everything in our alpire to make sure that these gestures happen as often as possible to make sure that the people who are still in the conditions that you spend some time in are liberated.
02:41How long did you spend 498 days? Terrible.
02:51I would like to express my hope once again that all the people who are currently still in the state that you were in will see the light of freedom.
03:02I am very happy to see you and I would like to wish all the best to you.
03:09I wish you family happiness and all the best.
03:13First of all, I would like to say thank you personally to you and to the government of Russia as well as to the Russian Federation for the efforts that have not been spared to liberate us.
03:28As myself and my mother were liberated at the end of October 2023 and when I was liberated and when I learned that my husband had been killed and that my only son was taken hostage, it was a blow, a terrible blow.
03:50So these were difficult times I have been through and throughout all of this time I have got the support of Rabbi Lazar as well as the support of the Russian embassy in Israel, Ambassador Viktorov in particular.
04:10All of this time we have been in contact and I knew that no effort was spared to make sure that Sasha is liberated and finally he is here.
04:27I would like to say that very soon it's going to be the 80th anniversary of the great victory, 80 years.
04:37My grandmother, Sasha's great grandmother was a military doctor.
04:43She was wounded during the hostilities and she was taken prisoner by the Nazis and yet she managed to escape and she was serving in a guerrilla squad in Belarus and that's where she was during the later stages of the war.
05:05Finally, Sasha was taken hostage and finally it ended and you know Sasha was also taken hostage but you managed to get free so I do hope this is the last time it happens to our family.
05:17Yes, your great grandmother was a military doctor.
05:24Yes, she was a military doctor and she was wounded near Korsk, she was taken prisoner, she managed to escape and she got into a guerrilla squad.
05:33That's where she was when the war ended.
05:36As I see your family has direct relationship to the great patriotic war and to its end.
05:46And my congratulations once again on the reunification of your family.
05:50Yes, I would also like to say thank you for your actions.
05:57You helped set us free and I do hope that all the other hostages will get free as well.
06:12I understand what they're feeling.
06:14I know what it's like and what kind of life they're leading, what the conditions of their life are.
06:22And it seems as if half of my heart is still back there in Gaza, it was very difficult for me and still difficult to get back to normal life.
06:35So I would like to ask you to keep doing everything in your power to make sure other hostages are liberated.
06:47I do hope they will get free and will be happy, as happy as I am now that I'm back together with my family, with my loved ones.
07:00Yes, we're certainly going to work on that.
07:08You know, when we had the first meeting on this subject, you promised us you were going to do everything in your power.
07:21And, you know, the President's promises have been kept.
07:27And I think during the most difficult times, your support is very important.
07:35Yes, certainly we were doing everything we could.
07:38We were sparing no effort.
07:39And in your particular case, we managed to succeed.
