Philippines says US anti-ship missile system in the country for annual joint exercises

The Philippines' armed forces said on Tuesday, April 15, the US' Navy-Marine Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System (NMESIS) is in the country and will be used in the upcoming annual joint military drills.

More than 14,000 Philippine and US soldiers will be participating in the upcoming Balikatan (shoulder-to-shoulder) exercises, which will focus on enhancing maritime, territorial and coastal defenses. The drills will start on April 21 until May 9, and will also include some soldiers from Australia and Japan.

The drills will include integrated air and missile defense, counter-landing live fire exercises, maritime strike and humanitarian assistance.

00:30We have an increase in the number of participants with the Australian Defense Force, the ADF.

00:44We are going to have active observers coming from the JSDF, the Japanese Sub-Defense Force.
00:50This is also the reason why we do these joint exercises to make sure that all of these not only work as single service operations,
00:57but they also work together as part of a joint force.
01:20The advice will be, and this is also the best of these joint exercises that we'll do,
01:28the steam cause to make sure that all of these requirements are served in the future.
