15 April - national forecast presented by Alex Burkill
Transcript
00:00Good morning. Did you wake up to a bang? There is some heavy, thundery rain around at the moment.
00:05There's more unsettled weather to come as we go through the next few days.
00:09Through today, we have an area of low pressure pushing its way northward.
00:12That's going to invigorate some of the rain that we have at the moment.
00:16Then that rain becomes largely confined to northern areas later tomorrow.
00:20Slight respite as we go into Thursday, but more showery rain pushing in from the west-southwest
00:26as we go towards the end of the week, well, towards the Easter weekend, really.
00:31But back to the here and now, and yes, some heavy, thundery showers pushed in across parts of the southeast overnight.
00:36They're gradually making their way further north.
00:39Meanwhile, we have still this front lingering across some parts of eastern Scotland
00:43through the borders towards western parts of Wales and southwest England.
00:47But like I said, we have an area of low pressure feeding up from the south,
00:51and it's this that's going to help intensify the rain across parts of Wales and southwest England.
00:57We're going to see totals building up as we go through this afternoon overnight and into tomorrow.
01:02Some places could see 50 to 75 millimetres enough for some flooding in places
01:06and also some travel disruption across Wales and southwest England.
01:10Elsewhere, it's a drier story.
01:12A lot of that showery rain in the southeast will clear its way northwards,
01:16but fringing some north-sea coastal parts.
01:18Otherwise, some bright or sunny spells, but also a fair deal amount of cloud for some places.
01:24Where we get the sunshine towards the southeast, we still have some warm air here,
01:28and so I'm expecting high teens possibly 20 Celsius.
01:31But further north and west, we have some cooler air,
01:33and if you're stuck under that cloud and that rain, particularly where the rain's quite heavy,
01:37some parts of Wales, southwest England may only get to highs of around 6 or 7 Celsius.
01:42So a real contrast in our temperatures, the sunshine and that warmer air towards the southeast
01:47really playing a part in how warm it's likely to get.
01:50Then as we go through the rest of tonight or through this evening and overnight,
01:54we are going to see the heavy rain across Wales and the southwest feeding further northwards.
01:59Still some heavy bursts across parts of the North Midlands, northern England for a time this evening.
02:04Then it pushes its way into southern parts of Scotland as we go through the early hours of tomorrow morning.
02:09More wet weather, though, piling in across parts of Wales and the southwest,
02:13which is why we're going to continue to see those totals building up as we go through the next 24 hours or so.
02:19That rain also fringing into Northern Ireland, but here I'm not expecting it to be as heavy.
02:23The far north of the UK and also towards the far east of England perhaps staying drier,
02:27and there may be some clear skies around, but generally we're looking at a largely cloudy and pretty unsettled night,
02:33so temperatures on the whole not really dropping a huge amount.
02:36Some places getting into low single figures, but generally we should be frost-free.
02:41And so, yes, tomorrow then gets off to a pretty unsettled start for many places, some further heavy, persistent rain.
02:47But as we go through the day, as that low continues its progress northwards,
02:51the rain is going to become largely confined to northern parts of the country.
02:55That being said, it's going to take quite a while for it to clear central parts of England and Wales,
03:00so staying pretty wet here as we go through much of the afternoon, but eventually it is going to push its way northwards
03:06and, yeah, ending or going through the middle part of the afternoon with a wet picture across Scotland and northern England in particular.
03:12Further south, turning drier with some decent fine sunny weather developing,
03:17but we're saying goodbye to the warmest air,
03:19and so temperatures, if anything, across parts of the southeast won't be quite as high as today,
03:24mid-teens, so not feeling too bad in the sunshine.
03:27And all the time further north under the cloud and the rain, it is obviously going to feel pretty cool.
03:32Now, we're going to have more information about the unsettled weather
03:35and what we can expect through the long Easter weekend in our deep dive,
03:39which will be available with honour later on this afternoon.
03:41Otherwise, I'll see you again soon.
03:43Bye-bye.
03:43Bye-bye.
