00:00:00This is the Obra Reddin, who's facing charges of attempted battery,
00:00:29in Las Vegas, Nevada.
00:00:33The 30-year-old was arrested after he allegedly attacked his brother-in-law with a baseball bat.
00:00:43Reddin pleaded guilty and faced a possible sentence of one to four years in prison.
00:00:48At his sentencing, Reddin had a calm and matter-of-fact exchange with Judge Mary Kay Holthus.
00:00:53Based on my criminal history, I feel that I shouldn't be sent to prison for a second time.
00:01:03Have you looked at your criminal history?
00:01:05Have you looked at your criminal history?
00:01:06No, I actually just looked at it.
00:01:09I mean, you lived it, I suppose.
00:01:11I just looked at it, yeah.
00:01:12Yeah.
00:01:13Judge Holthus reminded Reddin of his criminal history.
00:01:16Three felonies, a gross, nine misdemeanors, multiple DVs.
00:01:20Got a lot going on, sir.
00:01:22Battery on a protected person, robberies, attempt home invasion.
00:01:27Reddin, who struggled with mental health issues like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder,
00:01:32tried to convince the judge that he deserved a second chance.
00:01:35Like having a dictionary and understanding myself, getting to know myself a little better
00:01:40and applying it to my personality and having a baby at that moment in those instances
00:01:47and just, like, trying to learn from my mistakes, you know?
00:01:51I feel like I shouldn't be sent to prison, but if it's appropriate for you, then you have
00:01:56to do what you have to do.
00:01:57But I figured that, you know, if I'm in a better place in my life, I'm not doing drugs,
00:02:03I'm not, you know, I'm not out there committing crimes now, you know, and I feel like I should
00:02:08be given the shot because I'm in a better place than I was.
00:02:12But Judge Holthus was having none of it.
00:02:14I appreciate that, but I think it's time that he gets a taste of something else because
00:02:18I just can't with that history.
00:02:21This is when the defendant went nuts.
00:02:23In accordance with the laws of state of Nevada, this court is...
00:02:25Oh, f*** that, f***!
00:02:26Hey, whoa, whoa!
00:02:31Redden launched over the courtroom bench and headed straight for Judge Holthus.
00:02:36Eventually, deputies were able to restrain him.
00:02:50Oh, f***!
00:02:52Ow, ow!
00:02:54Ow, ow, ow!
00:02:56There was sheer chaos in the courtroom, as alarms went off and people started calling for help.
00:03:12That's affirmative. Medical is requested.
00:03:16Judge Chambers.
00:03:17Yeah, be advised. 5-16's got a big laceration to his head.
00:03:20Judge hit her head into the wall, and I got an inmate that's bleeding up here.
00:03:24It's going to be a positive transport to UNC for a marshal.
00:03:28It's also going to need a biohazard cleanup for a lot of blood on the floor.
00:03:32Thankfully, Judge Holthus wasn't seriously injured.
00:03:35Later, it was revealed that Redden had punched her several times and pulled out parts of her hair.
00:03:40Shorty. Shorty.
00:03:42Seek it.
00:03:44You guys want to clear out.
00:03:45Clear out.
00:03:46Clear out.
00:03:48Clear out.
00:03:49However, one marshal had to be hospitalized and needed 25 stitches after suffering a forehead injury as well as a dislocated shoulder.
00:03:57A few days later, Redden was back in court to learn his fate for the initial assault case.
00:04:02This time, he was heavily shackled and wore a spit mask.
00:04:05All right, this is on for the continuation of Mr. Redden's sentencing.
00:04:09I want to make it clear that I am not changing or modifying the sentence.
00:04:12I was in the process of imposing last week before I was interrupted by defendant's actions.
00:04:18All right, that being said, in accordance with the laws of the state of Nevada,
00:04:22this court does now sentence you 19 to 48 months in the Nevada Department.
00:04:25Corrections?
00:04:26Additionally, Redden faced 13 new charges for the attack on Judge Holthus,
00:04:31including attempted murder, battery, and extortion by threat.
00:04:35You're being charged with, count one, attempt murder, victim 60 years of age or older, a felony.
00:04:40Count two, battery on a protected person resulting in substantial bodily harm, victim 60 years of age or older, a felony.
00:04:47Count three, extortion by threat, a felony.
00:04:50If convicted, he could spend decades behind bars.
00:04:54While D'Obra Redden took out his anger on an unlucky judge,
00:04:57how does it compare to giving your lawyer a knuckle sandwich?
00:05:00Like in the case of Christopher Thiel, who's at the King County courtroom in Seattle, Washington,
00:05:07facing sexual assault charges.
00:05:09In May 2018, Thiel, who was homeless at the time,
00:05:13followed a woman inside the restroom of a car dealership and sexually assaulted her.
00:05:17He was arrested after company employees barged in and stopped the attack.
00:05:22Thiel was charged with first-degree sexual assault and unlawful imprisonment.
00:05:26He appeared in court for a competency hearing represented by his lawyer, Reed Berkland.
00:05:31As the hearing began, Thiel seemed amused and raised his arm towards Berkland
00:05:35before being stopped by a deputy.
00:05:38Mr. Thiel's present. He's in custody. He's represented by counsel, Mr. Berkland.
00:05:43Then suddenly, without provocation, Thiel snapped.
00:05:46His counsel, who I'll defer to in a moment,
00:05:49that they are now stipulating that Mr. Thiel is...
00:05:52Out of nowhere, Thiel punched his own lawyer.
00:05:59Luckily, court deputies managed to quickly subdue him.
00:06:06Get down, face down!
00:06:09Put your hands behind your back!
00:06:14A spit hood was placed over his head, and Thiel was removed from the courtroom.
00:06:18The next time Thiel appeared in court, the deputies ensured he wouldn't be punching anyone.
00:06:29New counsel has been appointed since the last hearing.
00:06:33Eventually, Thiel was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison for his original charges.
00:06:38While Christopher Thiel's reaction could certainly be dismissed as a mental health issue,
00:06:42how does it compare to clocking your lawyer in the face?
00:06:45Like in the case of Joseph Zeiler, who's on trial for double murder in Cape Corral, Florida.
00:06:54Back in May 1990, 11-year-old Robin Cornell and her babysitter Lisa Story
00:06:59were found s***ly assaulted and murdered at their home.
00:07:02The suspect in this case, 54-year-old Joseph Zeiler, is now facing several different charges.
00:07:08They include s***al battery and first-degree murder.
00:07:10The gruesome scene was discovered by Robin's mom, Jan Cornell, who called 911.
00:07:17The case went cold for over two decades, until Zeiler was arrested in 2016 for shooting and injuring his son.
00:07:34Zeiler's DNA was collected and entered into the database, which matched the DNA evidence from the 1990 crime scene.
00:07:42Zeiler was further charged with two counts of capital murder.
00:07:45At his trial, the prosecution sought the death penalty.
00:07:48Zeiler also took the stand, where he initially denied knowing both the victims and Jan Cornell.
00:08:14But Zeiler later claimed his DNA was at the crime scene because he and the victim, Robin Cornell's mother, Jan,
00:08:33were involved in intimate acts the night before the murders.
00:08:36And what I believe happened is I slept with Jan Cornell and Leanne Deller, and they were just too much of a pig not to wash your sheets.
00:08:44He even called the mother a pig.
00:08:46Your DNA would have still been there five months later.
00:08:50Yes.
00:08:50And that's because they're pigs and they don't wash their sheets, right?
00:08:53Exactly.
00:08:56Zeiler then claimed that the prosecution was framing him.
00:08:59They actually did retest NB-32, that they actually took the sheet, recut another sample, and had another analyst do the same test.
00:09:07Did you hear that?
00:09:08Yes.
00:09:09So the retesting was done?
00:09:10I believe FDLE is siding with the prosecution.
00:09:18Of course they're going to say that.
00:09:20At one point during his testimony, Zeiler also seemed to flip off the courtroom camera.
00:09:25Eventually, the jury found Zeiler guilty of first-degree murder.
00:09:34Verdict.
00:09:35We the jury find as follows as to count one of the charge.
00:09:39The defendant is guilty of first-degree murder of Robin Cornell.
00:09:44We the jury find as follows as to count two of the charge.
00:09:48The defendant is guilty of first-degree murder of Lisa Story.
00:09:51Despite his antics, what Zeiler did next left the whole courtroom stunned.
00:09:56At his sentencing, Zeiler appeared in handcuffs.
00:09:59He then asked his attorney, Kevin Shirley, for a private discussion.
00:10:03Hey, Kevin.
00:10:06What's up?
00:10:09What's wrong?
00:10:09Right here.
00:10:10Take that from where?
00:10:14As Shirley leaned in, Zeiler threw a cheap shot with his elbow.
00:10:18Thankfully, detectives quickly subdued him.
00:10:21Oh.
00:10:28All right.
00:10:29All right.
00:10:29I ain't doing nothing, man.
00:10:30We left.
00:10:31I'm caught.
00:10:32Are you okay?
00:10:33Meanwhile, Shirley saw the funny side of the incident.
00:10:36I used to box.
00:10:36I've taken a lot better shots than that.
00:10:38After the dust settled, it was time for Zeiler to learn his fate.
00:10:42The court concluded that the death penalty would be a proportionate sentence in this case.
00:10:46Therefore, the court concludes that under the laws of the state of Florida, the defendant has forfeited his right to live.
00:10:54Accordingly, it is ordered and adjudged that the defendant, Joseph Adam Zeiler, is hereby sentenced to death for the murder of Robin Cornell and the murder of Lisa Story.
00:11:06Ultimately, Zeiler was given the death penalty for the murders of Robin Cornell and Lisa Story.
00:11:12While Joseph Zeiler's attack on his defense seems premeditated, how does it compare to getting tased in the courtroom?
00:11:19Like in the case of Percy Phillips, who's facing charges for retaliating against a witness in Louisville, Kentucky.
00:11:25According to reports, Phillips acted out against a witness inside the courtroom in his previous trial.
00:11:30Now, a hearing was underway to determine whether the 45-year-old was competent to stand trial.
00:11:36It would be our position that Mr. Phillips is presently incompetent to stand trial.
00:11:43Phillips' lawyer argued he was unable to mount a defense since Phillips refused to talk to him.
00:11:48If we end up in trial, there is no way I can competently even frame a defense.
00:11:56I have asked Mr. Phillips, what do you want me to say or do at your trial, and he won't tell me.
00:12:03He literally, for years, has not said a word.
00:12:06He even predicted what was to follow later in the courtroom.
00:12:09Mr. Phillips has shared that he doesn't know exactly what he'll do in certain situations in the courtroom.
00:12:17He thinks he just may explode.
00:12:18Then, while the prosecutor was making his argument, something unexpected happened.
00:12:26He threatened the police officer who testified against him.
00:12:31Fan your f**k!
00:12:32I'm black!
00:12:33I can't put the f**k!
00:12:35F**k you up, man!
00:12:36Phillips, who until that moment had shown no emotion, exploded.
00:12:41An officer promptly tased Phillips, and the defendant dropped like a stone.
00:12:45Even though Phillips lay in the courtroom tased and confused, he still wasn't done.
00:12:57Perfect, it ain't helping.
00:12:59Just relax.
00:12:59It ain't helping.
00:13:00While Percy Phillips got the shock of his life for his outburst, how does it compare to using bodily fluids to show discontent?
00:13:08You just gave him four interviews.
00:13:09Well, guess what?
00:13:11Sir, who says him?
00:13:13Sir, who says him?
00:13:14F**k you up!
00:13:16Like in the case of Ricky Hand, who's facing multiple charges of robbery in Springfield, Ohio.
00:13:22Late one night in April 2016, the owner of John's drive-thru was preparing to end his shift.
00:13:27Unknown to him, his business was about to be targeted.
00:13:3146-year-old Ricky Hand, a known career criminal, was about to rob John's drive-thru that night.
00:13:37However, the store owner was already armed and ready after seeing Hand approach on security cameras.
00:13:43The man shot at hand multiple times, and the perpetrator fled the scene.
00:13:59The owner then called 911.
00:14:08911 emergency.
00:14:09Yeah, this is John's drive-thru, West Main Street.
00:14:14A guy just tried to rob me and I shot him.
00:14:17He ran out the back door.
00:14:18Police arrived and traced Hand to a nearby hospital, where he was arrested.
00:14:26Hand later confessed to the robbery attempt.
00:14:28He also admitted his involvement in a series of other robberies.
00:14:41There have been probably a half a dozen or more robberies.
00:14:45Now you're looking at John's, you're looking at this break-in to this beauty salon.
00:14:49That's all I've done.
00:14:50The beauty salon's a bonus, because I didn't even know anything about that, and you told me that.
00:14:56I've been going to prison for a long time.
00:14:57Well, you know that.
00:14:59Eventually, Hand pleaded guilty to seven robbery-related charges, and was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
00:15:05Did you just give me 40 years?
00:15:08Sir?
00:15:09Yes.
00:15:10Clearly expecting a lesser sentence, Hand put his disgusting plan into action.
00:15:15We just gave you 40 years.
00:15:17Well, guess what?
00:15:17Sir, don't say to Sam, let's say to Sam.
00:15:21You f***ing asshole!
00:15:25After learning his fate, Hand proceeded to fling hidden pill bottles filled with feces and urine at his own lawyer,
00:15:32before being detained by court officers.
00:15:35You f***ing asshole!
00:15:36You f***ing asshole!
00:15:37For the f***ing years, you got me f***ing up!
00:15:41You can't play Jesus in God!
00:15:44What's wrong with you?
00:15:45You f***ing...
00:15:46You f***ing...
00:15:47...that, man!
00:15:484 years of death sin, man!
00:15:51You f***ing...
00:15:52You f***ing...
00:15:52You f***ing...
00:15:54You f***ing...
00:15:54You f***ing...
00:15:54You f***ing...
00:15:57...man!
00:15:58You f***ing...
00:15:58...Oh man!
00:15:59Due to his antics, Hand faced additional charges of harassment with bodily fluids,
00:16:03obstructing justice, and retaliation.
00:16:06While Rickie Hand's biohazard bomb left everyone stunned and disgusted,
00:16:09What happens when a defendant attacks her own lawyer?
00:16:18Like in the case of 25-year-old Taylor Shibiznes, who is on trial for a grisly murder in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
00:16:25There was a human head. There was genitalia in the bucket.
00:16:30Let me stop you there. What do you mean genitalia?
00:16:34What I would recommend is a b**** and testicles.
00:16:36On February 23rd, 2022, Shibiznes strangled her boyfriend, 24-year-old Shad Therion,
00:16:44and mutilated his body during a night of drug-fueled intimate acts.
00:16:49Therion was choked to death with a metal chain, and his dismembered body was found in his mother's basement.
00:16:56Shibiznes left Therion's severed head in a bucket and other body parts in storage totes, plastic bags, and cardboard boxes.
00:17:04Therion's mother, Tara, discovered the horrific scene and called 911.
00:17:09The cops immediately arrived and found blood marks outside the house.
00:17:33Um, is this blood? Does this look like blood to you?
00:17:39Once inside, they discovered the full extent of the crime.
00:17:43I had Officer Plonky come downstairs and just verify we had in fact found a human head in the bucket,
00:17:49and then we started to notify a supervisor and then ask for additional units.
00:17:55Shibiznes was swiftly arrested.
00:17:57Hi, Taylor, how's it going? I'm Sir Russell with the Drew Day Police Department.
00:18:01Just make sure you ain't got nothing on you here.
00:18:09With Taylor.
00:18:11Contact me, Taylor.
00:18:13Taylor, you have a warrant for your wrist. Just put your hands back in the back of it.
00:18:17Anyone else in your apartment?
00:18:19You got it.
00:18:20Come on, I'm here.
00:18:21I'm here.
00:18:21During interrogations, Shibiznes explained what exactly happened that night.
00:18:27She said both Therion and she took part in uncommon s***able acts, which quickly took a darker turn.
00:18:34So when he put the chain on his neck, he thought that you guys were going to have a kinky s***, right?
00:18:42You think that's what Chad was thinking, maybe?
00:18:44Yeah.
00:18:45What were you thinking?
00:18:49I was going to do the same thing.
00:18:50You know, I was going in, and I did.
00:18:53And I went in.
00:18:54But then he was like, choked me, but he didn't really say it.
00:18:58So I'm like, you put it on his neck, I already know I'm going to choke him.
00:19:01And I did.
00:19:02However, when she did realize that her partner was dying, Shibiznes didn't bother to stop and
00:19:08ultimately decided to kill him.
00:19:10The chain goes around his neck and he started s***ing him.
00:19:14And he just realized that he was going to die or what?
00:19:19I'm just like, s***.
00:19:20I think I went a little too far because, like, I was blacking out while I was doing it, right?
00:19:25And then I'm like, f***.
00:19:26And then, like, I look at him and I'm like, s***, it's very crippled.
00:19:29I'm like, f***.
00:19:30I'm like, I don't know if he's fucking, is he good?
00:19:33Is he good?
00:19:33But then, like, when I woke up, like, I'm like, s***, like, he was copping up f*** on it.
00:19:39Shibiznes also admitted that even though she didn't want to kill Therion, she ended up enjoying it.
00:19:45I think you used the f*** also said that you enjoyed it, right?
00:19:48Yeah, I enjoyed it.
00:19:49Oh, yeah.
00:19:50All right.
00:19:51After f***ing Therion, Shibiznes f***ing assaulted his dead body for the next two to three hours.
00:19:58I grinded on him, I put the f*** into the f***.
00:20:01You grinded on?
00:20:02Yeah.
00:20:03Did you ever put his f*** in your f***?
00:20:08You grinded on him?
00:20:12She then proceeded to dismember Therion's body using knives from his mother's kitchen.
00:20:17How did you dismember his f***?
00:20:20Knives.
00:20:21With what?
00:20:22Knives, knives, knives, knives.
00:20:24Knives?
00:20:25More than one knife?
00:20:28About four.
00:20:29Where did you get those from?
00:20:30Kitchen.
00:20:31But when did you start, you know, c***ing his body?
00:20:37Wow.
00:20:37My palm started away all c***ing and c***ing at the same time.
00:20:41So basically it's head here and the bucket's right here?
00:20:44Yeah.
00:20:44And then, um, from there...
00:20:47Ah, I didn't know what it is.
00:20:52You c***ing at all.
00:20:53Yeah.
00:20:54Finally, she disposed of the body parts in her van.
00:20:57That's why she became lazy and left the decapitated head in a bucket.
00:21:01What did you do with the body?
00:21:02Basement, upstairs.
00:21:04Absolutely in the basement.
00:21:05I was in the room.
00:21:07And then, um...
00:21:08And no, I forgot the head.
00:21:09I wanted the head.
00:21:10I got lazy.
00:21:12Okay.
00:21:13I got lazy and that's what I did.
00:21:15Shebizness was charged with first-degree intentional homicide, mutilation of a corpse, and third-degree c***able assault.
00:21:22At her trial, investigators described the horrific crime scene.
00:21:26There was a human head.
00:21:28There was genitalia in the bucket.
00:21:31Let me stop you there.
00:21:33What do you mean, genitalia?
00:21:34What I would recommend is the c***ing testicles.
00:21:37Beyond the stack of mattresses, there appear to be blood on the floor and then small chunks of human flesh.
00:21:43The back has been largely flayed and defleshed.
00:21:47In other words, the skin of the back has been removed.
00:21:50Also, the muscles of the back have been removed so that we have exposed ribcage.
00:21:55Despite the grisly nature of her crimes, what Shebizness did next still managed to shock everyone.
00:22:09In a fit of rage, Shebizness attacked her own lawyer in court.
00:22:13It finally took two officers to subdue her.
00:22:15You went off on your attorney, Taylor.
00:22:18You went crazy on your attorney.
00:22:19Due to her aggressive behavior in courtroom antics, Shebizness was forced to wear a spit mask and shackles.
00:22:26After a short trial and just 50 minutes of deliberation, the jurors reached a verdict.
00:22:31We, the jury, find the defendant, Taylor, Denise Shebizness, guilty of first-degree intentional homicide as charged in count one of the information.
00:22:38During sentencing, Therion's loved ones got the chance to directly address his killer.
00:22:43I'm not a praying man, but after Judge Walsh's sentence used today, I will pray that you meet the same fate as your idolistic Jeffrey Dahmer.
00:22:59So have a good life, Shebizness.
00:23:01While Therion's uncle compared Shebizness to the notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, Therion's father, on the other hand, forgave his son's killer and even asked the judge to show her mercy.
00:23:12Taylor, I just wanted to say that I forgive you for what you've done to my son.
00:23:17Yeah, you made a bad choice, and now you have to live with it.
00:23:20And like I said, I forgive you, and I'm going to ask the judge if he can, you know, if she can see the streets again sometime, you know.
00:23:28However, Judge Thomas Walsh had no such sympathy.
00:23:32This crime offends human decency, it offends human dignity, and it offends the human community.
00:23:40It really does.
00:23:41As to, in 22 CF 363, count one, that's the first degree intentional homicide as a repeater, it's a class A felony, going to impose life imprisonment without the possibility of extended supervision.
00:23:55Ultimately, Shebizness was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the gruesome murder of Shad Therion.
00:24:03While Taylor Shebizness' trial was filled with blood-chilling moments, what happens when a defendant gets attacked by his own son?
00:24:10Like in the case of Vashawn Flowers, who's on trial for murder in Muskegon County, Michigan.
00:24:20In May 2019, Flowers allegedly shot and killed his wife, Jamie, at their Muskegon Heights home, after the two had an argument over cigarettes.
00:24:29Initially, the couple fought for more than a day, after which police arrived and separated the two.
00:24:34Flowers left, but hours later he returned, kicked in the door, and shot Jamie four times.
00:24:40The two were separated and police were called, but Vashawn returned hours after police left the home.
00:24:46Jones says she heard him kick in the front door and confront her mother while she was protecting her child from harm in a bedroom.
00:24:52The 46-year-old then turned himself in and was charged with open murder.
00:24:57In court, Jamie's daughter, Paris, who witnessed the whole incident, testified.
00:25:01He got down on the ground and started choking my mother.
00:25:04Actually, I heard, you don't have to do this, Vashawn.
00:25:07Please don't do this.
00:25:08You don't have to do this.
00:25:10And then I heard gunshots.
00:25:13Do you recall how many you heard?
00:25:14Four.
00:25:15I got up and I left out of the room.
00:25:17She was sitting straight up against the wall.
00:25:20Did you observe some blood?
00:25:21Yes, on her shirt.
00:25:24Gunshots, bullet holes in her shirt and blood.
00:25:28But it was Jamie's son who decided to take matters into his own hands.
00:25:38During a hearing, 21-year-old London Jones was seated in the gallery with the rest of his siblings.
00:25:43When suddenly, he leaped over the barricade and headed straight towards his mother's killer.
00:26:03Alert deputies were able to tackle him just in the nick of time.
00:26:06Eventually, the grieving son was restrained.
00:26:22Ultimately, the grieving son was restrained and taken out of the courtroom.
00:26:38Ultimately, Flowers was convicted of Jamie's murder and sentenced to life in prison.
00:26:43While Vashon Flowers faced his son's fury, what happens when a convict attempts to break free?
00:26:49Like in the case of Michael Thomas, who's facing homicide charges in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
00:26:54I never will forget when he shot my mom, the laugh that he did.
00:26:58In 2011, 16-year-old Thomas was driving around in a stolen minivan with Malik Merchant and Jimmy Scales
00:27:05when they stopped at West Lisbon Avenue and attempted to rob Sharon Staples.
00:27:10Thomas allegedly jumped out of the car and threatened Sharon to give up her purse.
00:27:14But when she resisted, Thomas fatally shot her.
00:27:17Sharon was 12 weeks pregnant at the time.
00:27:20Thomas was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree reckless homicide
00:27:24for killing Sharon and her unborn child.
00:27:27He later pleaded guilty to those charges.
00:27:30I'm a KLD Thomas myself for responsibility for my part that brought your family such
00:27:35pains.
00:27:35During sentencing, Judge David Borowski had a few words for the teenage killer's family.
00:27:40I do not think of a more serious, aggravated set of circumstances than what went on here.
00:27:46Mr. Thomas has an awful juvenile record.
00:27:49Awful.
00:27:50Was not being raised well.
00:27:52And that is the fault of the parents.
00:27:55Thomas was initially calm and silent, but after he learned he'd spend most of his adult life
00:28:00in prison, all hell broke loose.
00:28:05Thomas looked towards his family and attempted to move towards them.
00:28:17This prompted court deputies to tackle him to the ground, causing an outburst among those
00:28:21who were sitting in the gallery.
00:28:22The deputies managed to get him to his feet, but they couldn't control the teenager.
00:28:45Finally, Thomas was restrained and removed from the courtroom.
00:29:00A sheriff took hold of the situation and calmed the irate family members down.
00:29:21Listen, listen, right now, right, please, no good is going to be done by this courtroom
00:29:30being disrupted, okay?
00:29:33What's going to happen is we are going to allow the other people that were in this courtroom
00:29:37to leave, okay?
00:29:38Eventually, the crowd started leaving.
00:29:41A deputy asked a guy named Choc to wait, but Choc was having none of it.
00:29:52He was promptly cuffed and taken into custody.
00:30:08Ultimately, Michael Thomas was sent to 35 years in prison with 10 years of extended supervision.
00:30:33As for Malik Merchant, who police said acted as a lookout, he was sentenced to 17 years
00:30:39in prison.
00:30:40The getaway driver, Jimmy Scales, was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
00:30:45While Michael Thomas showed great physical strength and defiance in court, what happens
00:30:49when you attack an officer of the court?
00:30:51Like in the case of William Terry, whose sentencing was wrapping up, the Cuyahoga County Justice Center
00:31:03in Cleveland, Ohio.
00:31:05Terry just received an 18-month prison sentence for burglary and assault.
00:31:09Terry's family was present in the courtroom, sitting behind him, while the victim was seated
00:31:13across from them.
00:31:14As he was heading to prison, Terry turned to his family and gave them words of encouragement.
00:31:18Then, suddenly, he turned towards the victim.
00:31:29A deputy tried to pacify the situation, but Terry proceeded to headbutt him.
00:31:44Another deputy joined in and tried to control the situation.
00:31:47More backup was called in.
00:31:49Eventually, Terry was removed from the courtroom without any further incident.
00:32:14He faced no additional charges for his outburst.
00:32:24While William Terry got off easy for his moment of madness, how does it compare to knocking
00:32:28your lawyer out cold?
00:32:30Like in the case of David Chisleton, who was convicted of assault and arson in Cleveland,
00:32:35Ohio.
00:32:36According to police, Chisleton assaulted his girlfriend with a pistol and held her hostage
00:32:40before setting an apartment complex on fire.
00:32:42At his sentencing, Chisleton appeared with handcuffs in the front, which typically is not that secure.
00:32:48Chisleton's lawyer, Aaron Brockler, had initially argued for a nine-year sentence.
00:32:53Instead, Chisleton received 47 years in prison.
00:32:57Safe to say the defendant was not happy at all, and his lawyer had to pay the price.
00:33:02Chisleton punched Brockler in the face and continued assaulting him.
00:33:23Eventually, court officers were able to control the situation.
00:33:40They escorted Chisleton from the courtroom and down to the holding cell.
00:33:50What's going on?
00:33:51He assaulted his own attorney just right after he got sentenced to 45 years.
00:33:57So right now, assaulted me.
00:34:00Brockler suffered a broken nose and concussion.
00:34:02All I remember is waking up on the floor underneath the table.
00:34:06You know, it was just a busted nose and a concussion.
00:34:09Surprisingly, Chisleton was later found not guilty of the assault.
00:34:13While David Chisleton's actions totally came out of the blue, what happens when a defendant swings at an innocent bystander?
00:34:20Did she know you're a racist?
00:34:27Like in the case of David St. John, who's facing multiple charges, including aggravated sexual assault in Houston, Texas.
00:34:34You are charged with the aggravated sexual assault of a child older than 14 but younger than 17.
00:34:44As per reports, St. John took a teenage girl to a motel and sexually assaulted her at gunpoint.
00:34:50At the time of the incident, St. John was already awaiting trial for three other crimes,
00:34:55including possession of the pistol he used during the alleged assault.
00:34:58Now in court, as the judge was seemingly distracted with another issue, St. John did something outrageous.
00:35:15He kept repeating, did you learn your lesson, before punching a man in the face.
00:35:20Fortunately, a deputy quickly subdued St. John.
00:35:24Get on the-
00:35:26Get on the-
00:35:27Okay, what's that?
00:35:28It's a panic button.
00:35:29Call someone.
00:35:30Call someone.
00:35:31Call someone.
00:35:32What was that?
00:35:33Huh?
00:35:34As he was being cuffed, St. John continued to offer advice.
00:35:37Sit down, man.
00:35:38Sit down.
00:35:39I'm learning your lesson, man.
00:35:40Hey!
00:35:41I'm fine.
00:35:42What was that?
00:35:43No, you didn't learn your lesson, you're gonna end up like me.
00:35:45It was unclear why St. John attacked the man, but before leaving the courtroom, he had one final word of wisdom.
00:35:51Get up.
00:35:52Get up.
00:35:53It's a man.
00:35:54It's a man.
00:35:55We don't have a panic button.
00:35:56I don't have one over here.
00:35:57I did that for y'all good, son.
00:35:59Don't end up like me.
00:36:00I'm not.
00:36:01Hey.
00:36:02Hey.
00:36:03Hey.
00:36:04Lock him up.
00:36:05What's the problem?
00:36:06Hey.
00:36:07Hey.
00:36:08Hey.
00:36:09Hey.
00:36:10Hey.
00:36:11Hey.
00:36:12Hey.
00:36:13Hey.
00:36:14Hey.
00:36:15Hey.
00:36:16Hey.
00:36:17Hey.
00:36:18Hey.
00:36:19Hey.
00:36:20Hey.
00:36:21Hey.
00:36:22Hey.
00:36:23Hey.
00:36:24Hey.
00:36:25Hey.
00:36:26Hey.
00:36:27Hey.
00:36:28Hey.
00:36:29Hey.
00:36:30Hey.
00:36:31Hey.
00:36:32Hey.
00:36:33Hey.
00:36:34Hey.
00:36:35Hey.
00:36:36Hey.
00:36:37Hey.
00:36:38Hey.
00:36:39Hey.
00:36:40Hey.
00:36:41Hey.
00:36:42Hey.
00:36:43Hey.
00:36:44explaining the situation when Hardwick started to interrupt.
00:36:47Things have been escalating, I guess, since the first of the year.
00:36:51And Melissa's had a couple of MIWs and a couple of arrests.
00:36:56And she got out of jail in, I guess, April.
00:37:00And she started, she started.
00:37:02We hadn't really had anything personal up until that point.
00:37:06She got out of jail in April and she started.
00:37:08My personal life.
00:37:09No, no.
00:37:10It's your business.
00:37:11At first, Judge Jennifer Edwards gave the defendant a warning.
00:37:15Ms. Hardwick, you will be held in contempt of this court if you become disruptive.
00:37:22But Hardwick did not care.
00:37:24So the judge had her arrested for contempt and sentenced her to 10 days in jail.
00:37:29I haven't done anything to this court.
00:37:31I haven't done anything to him.
00:37:33She will be arrested for contempt of the court.
00:37:35You will serve 10 days for contempt of the court.
00:37:38This is when things got really crazy.
00:37:40Hardwick leapfrogged and reached out to get her hands on the judge.
00:37:47But thankfully, court deputies stepped in just in time.
00:37:51However, that did not stop Hardwick's verbal threats.
00:37:58She faced additional criminal charges for her antics.
00:37:59I knew a judge would have to be appointed to represent because she will be charged criminally
00:38:05for the threats that were made in open court today.
00:38:12Eventually, Hardwick was sentenced to 120 days in prison for her outburst.
00:38:16While Melissa Hardwick's attack was stopped in the nick of time, how does it compare to spitting
00:38:23on a judge?
00:38:25It matters no way I want to try this case.
00:38:26If I have any further proceedings or I have to see you for one further second.
00:38:32Like in the case of 30-year-old Bass Webb, who's in court for attempted murder charges in Paris, Kentucky.
00:38:39CCTV footage outside a Kentucky jail showed Webb, a former inmate who spent three months there intentionally hitting two prison workers with his car.
00:38:46While one guy managed to dodge it, the other was not so lucky.
00:38:49Surveillance video from the Bourbon County Jail, which shows a car barreled down on two jailers, hitting and nearly killing them.
00:38:56Webb was arrested and produced before Judge Vanessa Dixon.
00:38:59Keep your word aside.
00:39:00You.
00:39:01That'd be yes.
00:39:02You.
00:39:03You.
00:39:04That'd be yes.
00:39:05You.
00:39:06You.
00:39:07You.
00:39:08You.
00:39:09You.
00:39:10You.
00:39:11You.
00:39:12You.
00:39:13You.
00:39:14You.
00:39:15You.
00:39:16You.
00:39:17You.
00:39:18You.
00:39:19You.
00:39:20You.
00:39:21Yes.
00:39:22Since she knew the two jail employees beforehand, judge Dixon decided to recuse herself from the
00:39:26case.
00:39:27This very matters no way I wanna try this case.
00:39:29We're gonna have any further proceedings or I'll have to see you for one further second.
00:39:33Is that through the…
00:39:34But what Webb did next shocked everyone.
00:39:36Is there anything for the next week?
00:39:38Is there anything for text to me?
00:39:39Is there anything for the next week?
00:39:40In an act of defiance, the defendant spat on Judge Cliff Dixon.
00:39:43Clearly taking her by surprise.
00:39:45Is there anything for the next week?
00:39:46Is there anything for the next week?
00:39:47I charge me?
00:39:48I'm ambiente.
00:39:49After initially dismissing him, Judge Dixon brought Webb back, charged him, and threw
00:39:54him out of her courtroom.
00:39:55Nevertheless, this is not the end of Webb's run-in with the law.
00:39:59While awaiting trial, Webb started a riot with other inmates inside the Fayette County
00:40:04Detention Center.
00:40:08Webb was shot with beanbag bullets and even hit in the neck with a pepper ball.
00:40:12In retaliation, Webb swung a metal telephone box at a corrections officer.
00:40:32He was charged for his actions and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
00:40:36Additionally, Webb was convicted of attempting to murder the two jail employees and was sentenced
00:40:50to 37 years.
00:40:51Facing a total of 52 years of jail time, while serving his time in prison, new evidence came
00:40:57up linking Webb to the unsolved murder of his ex-girlfriend, Bria Runowitz.
00:41:02To escape the death penalty, Webb pleaded guilty, and got an additional 50 years in prison.
00:41:07Now, if that wasn't enough, five years later, another cold case came to haunt Webb.
00:41:12This time, he was charged with the murder of another ex-girlfriend, Sabrina Vaughn.
00:41:17Webb appeared in court with a sinister tattoo on his head.
00:41:20It had a murder hit list of all the people he intended to kill, including all judges,
00:41:26all prosecutors, all cops, the media, three rats that had been crossed out.
00:41:31And many more.
00:41:32Today, he came into the courtroom with tattoos that read, kill rats and those that must die,
00:41:38above a list that included all judges, prosecutors, cops, the media, three rats that had been crossed
00:41:44out, and many more.
00:41:46Despite his threatening tattoos, Webb was convicted again.
00:41:50You have found an defendant guilty of the offense of intentional murder.
00:41:54Ultimately, Webb was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years.
00:42:00Bass Webb's threatening tattoos certainly kept a few people up at night.
00:42:04What happens when a defendant lashes out at the victim's family?
00:42:11Like in the case of Andrew Wirth, who was on trial for double homicide in Jefferson, Wisconsin.
00:42:17On December 6th, 2009, 24-year-old Wirth shot and killed off-duty town of Oconomowoc cop Jennifer
00:42:25Lewick and her boyfriend Greg Peters.
00:42:27A witness tells me that both victims were shot just outside the front door and both managed
00:42:31to make it inside before collapsing.
00:42:34It all began at the bar where Lewick playfully grabbed Wirth from behind.
00:42:38However, Wirth took offense, which led to an altercation between him, Lewick and her boyfriend
00:42:44Peters.
00:42:45Once outside, things got out of hand and Wirth shot Peters thrice, a third of which hit Lewick
00:42:51in the chest.
00:42:53Lewick initially survived the shooting, but later succumbed to her injuries.
00:42:57She had yelled, you know, call 911, he's got a gun, and then she was standing there for
00:43:04a few minutes and then collapsed, and nobody had even known that she was shot at that point.
00:43:08Witness Scott Trader said when he got outside, he saw Wirth pointing a gun at Peters' head
00:43:13and yelling at him.
00:43:14He said he was having a hard time breathing, and nobody knew that he had been shot in the
00:43:19side until they pulled up his shirt and actually saw the wound.
00:43:23Wirth was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide.
00:43:28However, when the judge set his bond at a whopping $1 million, Wirth snapped.
00:43:46Let's back up.
00:43:47An enraged Wirth first turned towards the victim's family members before being tackled by half
00:43:53a dozen deputies.
00:44:01As Wirth continued to struggle, a deputy whipped out his taser.
00:44:05Get these!
00:44:06Go!
00:44:07Taser!
00:44:08Taser!
00:44:09Taser!
00:44:10Police Chief Jim Wallace was right next to Lewick's family when the incident happened.
00:44:15I believe it's typical of what he's being charged with.
00:44:20His actions may be consistent with what was out on that evening.
00:44:24The next time Wirth was in court, the deputies ensured there wouldn't be any more outbursts
00:44:29from the defendant.
00:44:30At his trial, Wirth's attorney went for a self-defense argument.
00:44:34This was a confrontation that started because Jennifer Lewick had a problem with Andrew Wirth.
00:44:40Because he complained about being touched.
00:44:43It's a confrontation that was created and escalated by Greg Peters.
00:44:47A confrontation that ultimately left Andrew Wirth with no choice but to use a weapon to
00:44:54defend himself against what he believed was a direct threat to his own life.
00:44:59Eventually, Wirth was convicted of homicide by negligent use of a dangerous weapon and
00:45:04sentenced to ten years in prison.
00:45:06Each of these are separate classic felonies and they're separately punishable by life in
00:45:11prison.
00:45:12While Andrew Wirth's emotions got the better of him in court, what happens when you get
00:45:15into a wrestling match with the judge?
00:45:18Like in the case of Sidney Newsome, who's facing a domestic violence charge at the Pike County
00:45:23Justice Court in Mississippi.
00:45:25Southern District Judge Aubrey Rimes was presiding over the hearing.
00:45:29Newsome initially seemed to be in a good mood as he reviewed some papers.
00:45:32However, an altercation with a court officer agitated him.
00:45:37Newsome was then asked to sign some papers, which the officer presented to Judge Rimes.
00:46:03However, Newsome was not ready to rest his case.
00:46:06He furiously argued with the judge, who promptly asked the officer to remove him from court.
00:46:24This is when Newsome lost it.
00:46:35First, he grabbed a stack of papers and threw it at Judge Rimes.
00:46:41An officer tried to subdue him, but Newsome managed to overpower her.
00:46:45He then threw a telephone at the judge.
00:46:51This is when Judge Rimes decided to take matters into his own hands.
00:46:55As Newsome threw more paper at him, the judge single-handedly pinned the defendant to the table.
00:47:00Eventually, backup arrived.
00:47:16Newsome was restrained and removed from the courtroom.
00:47:19He faced additional charges of contempt of court and served 48 hours in prison.
00:47:39While Judge Aubrey Rimes literally took justice into his own hands, what happens when a defendant throws a table at the judge?
00:47:46Like in the case of Jaleel Hoskins, who's accused of his girlfriend in Kent County, Michigan.
00:47:56Did you kill Latrice Mayes?
00:47:59No, I did not.
00:48:00In March 2013, police responded to a domestic violence call made by 26-year-old Latrice Mayes against her boyfriend, Jaleel Hoskins.
00:48:09Neither one of you have any injuries, so at this point, I know the two of you aren't getting along this morning, but I don't have enough to interrupt either one of you.
00:48:16But I can tell you I don't get along.
00:48:19Now, certainly I can't make you leave.
00:48:22You can't make him leave.
00:48:23The officers offered to take Mayes someplace safe, but she refused.
00:48:27If you have somewhere you can go, maybe I can give you a ride there.
00:48:34If you don't have anywhere to go, I can take you to a shelter.
00:48:38And if you don't want to do either of those, you don't have to.
00:48:42In fact, you can stay here.
00:48:44Hours later, Hoskins strangled Mayes to death and dumped her body in an apartment complex.
00:48:49Her body was never recovered, as police believed it to be incinerated.
00:48:54Hoskins was arrested and charged with open murder.
00:48:56But he maintained his innocence.
00:48:59Did you kill Latrice Mayes?
00:49:01No, I did not.
00:49:02However, witness upon witness lined up to testify against Hoskins at his trial.
00:49:08He told me after the domestic or whatever happened, I guess after they left, she said she was going to tell the police that he stabbed her baby daddy.
00:49:21I guess she went in the bathroom.
00:49:23I guess he was thinking about her.
00:49:25Thinking about what?
00:49:26About doing it.
00:49:27Doing what?
00:49:28To kill her.
00:49:29I guess he choked her or something.
00:49:30Because you say he choked her.
00:49:31Yes.
00:49:32If he said I did her, I need her, I need some help, I can't carry her by myself.
00:49:47Eventually, Hoskins pleaded guilty to second degree murder, much to the relief of the victim's family members.
00:49:54Hoskins pleaded guilty to second degree murder.
00:49:56It's just a relief to know that it's all said and done and that he finally admitted to his guilt of choking her and putting her body in the dumpster and disposal.
00:50:08During sentencing, Mayes' mother and aunt had a chance to confront her killer.
00:50:12You tell me how I explain what happened to their mom.
00:50:18First of all, I want you to stand there and look at me and quit standing there looking at me and sitting like a little coward.
00:50:24Now I'm going to face you and I'm going to tell you exactly how I feel.
00:50:27While Hoskins seemed remorseful during the victim impact statements, what followed was utter pantemonium.
00:50:32You have 42 days to appeal. You are remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections for service of this sentence. Thank you.
00:50:40Your Honor.
00:50:44I love you, baby! I love you, Mom!
00:50:48As Judge James Redford slapped the defendant with a hefty prison sentence, Hoskins knocked down a lectern and charged toward the judge.
00:50:56Your Honor.
00:50:57I love you, baby!
00:51:02He was immediately grabbed by three deputies and removed from the courtroom.
00:51:06I love you! I love you! I love you! I love you! I love you! I love you! I love you! I love you! I love you! I love you! I love you!
00:51:15As Hoskins was being ushered away, a brawl broke out between the families of the victim and the defendant.
00:51:21I love you! I love you and I love you! I love you! I love you! I love you! How's the Without pissington now?
00:51:43ultimately Hoskins was sentenced to 50 to 100 years in prison for murdering his girlfriend
00:51:51while Jaleel Hoskins took his anger out on a lectern what happens when a defendant stalks
00:51:57and attacks a prosecutor for that we head to the Story County Courthouse in Nevada Iowa where
00:52:02prosecutor Tim Meals was heading home for the night after a long day at work but unknown to
00:52:08Meals someone was following him the person called his name and when Meals turned
00:52:23Meals was attacked and punched in the face another prosecutor Tyler Eason promptly jumped to his rescue
00:52:31eventually court security arrived and arrested the suspect both prosecutors suffer minor injuries
00:52:43to their head and face the attacker was later identified as 31 year old Major Robinson turns
00:52:49out Meals had previously prosecuted Robinson in a case and now he was there to settle a score Robinson
00:52:57was charged with assault and willful injury his bail was set at $24,000 the incident led to
00:53:03complaints from other prosecutors who felt they should be protected under similar laws as police
00:53:07officers and firefighters while Major Robinson was clearly upset with the prosecutor who got him
00:53:13convicted what happens when a victim's brother attacks the defendant like in the case of Tristan
00:53:19Lamoureux who is facing murder charges in Cedar City Utah in 2009 Lamoureux reportedly shot his wife
00:53:2619 year old Misty Lamoureux several times in the head instantly her when police arrived they found
00:53:32Misty's body in the bathroom and arrested Lamoureux after he tried to flee the scene instead of going
00:53:38to trial the 24 year old pleaded guilty to first-degree murder now it is sentencing Misty's brother Jason
00:53:44Wilson was called to the podium to deliver his victim impact statement
00:53:58the situation became more and more tense as Wilson spoke about the impact his sister's murder had on
00:54:04his family an emotional Wilson then turned his attention towards the defendant even making a step towards him
00:54:14the court bailiffs sensing Wilson was becoming increasingly overcome with emotion cautiously stepped
00:54:27in but the grieving brother had other ideas
00:54:35as the bailiffs approached him Wilson ran behind the attorney's table and tried to take a swing at Lamoureux
00:54:41but before he could reach the defendant the bailiffs sprang into action and tackled both Wilson and Lamoureux
00:54:52to the ground Wilson was restrained and removed from the courtroom he faced no additional charges after
00:55:03the dust settled the courtroom was put back in order and the sentencing continued eventually Lamoureux was
00:55:09sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for his wife while Tristan Lamoureux fell to grieving brothers fury
00:55:16what happens when an all-out brawl breaks out in court
00:55:23for that we head to the Marion County Judicial Center in Ocala Florida where 20-year-old Travis Davis 23-year-old
00:55:31Keila Richardson 22-year-old Brandon Banks and 21-year-old Kelvin Grimage were all convicted of first-degree murder two years earlier the four
00:55:40men gunned down 28-year-old Courtney London inside his own home right in front of his children after the
00:55:48the guilty verdict the four defendants were now in court to learn their fate
00:55:52any legal reason we shouldn't proceed with sentencing today
00:55:57okay all right so what um i've indicated that um i would like to do is to have the gentleman
00:56:04when suddenly all hell broke loose
00:56:06while the judge read their sentences a deputy attempted to cuff Travis Davis but he refused to
00:56:22cooperate i would like to do is to have the gentleman a second deputy jumped in to assist
00:56:29while another attempted to handcuff Grimage
00:56:36but the murderers were not going down without a fight
00:56:43amongst the chaos Richardson was handcuffed and removed from the courtroom
00:56:47in the courtroom
00:56:55meanwhile Davis started attacking his lawyer delivering blow after blow to his head
00:57:08failing to regain any control a deputy pulled out a taser and zapped the remaining three defendants
00:57:14including banks who didn't even join the melee
00:57:28other deputy ordered everyone to clear the courtroom
00:57:51After order was restored, the defendants said their farewells.
00:57:58Ultimately, all four were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
00:58:11While Travis Davis and his buddies got the shock of their lives,
00:58:14what happens when a judge has to physically restrain a convict?
00:58:18Chase this a** right now!
00:58:24Like in the case of Jacob Larson, who was in a Jackson County court for violating a personal protection order.
00:58:30You had a bad attitude, you had a bad attitude last time you were an oar.
00:58:34Judge John McBain, who was known for his no-nonsense judgment, presided over the hearing.
00:58:40A year ago, Judge McBain had signed off on a personal protection order after Larson was accused of stalking a classmate.
00:58:47You're out there hanging out at her place of employment.
00:58:50You're putting things all over her car.
00:58:52Her managers have got to come in there and ask you to leave.
00:58:55The terrified victim appeared in court and narrated her ordeal.
00:58:59I don't even know him, so I just don't understand how he's so obsessed and keeps messaging me.
00:59:05I have messages from October 9th after we got out of court, and then I have some from the 23rd.
00:59:12However, Larson blamed the woman for his actions.
00:59:15She's instigating it though.
00:59:17Why do you feel that she's instigating it?
00:59:19Because she's posting pictures and whatnot, directed to me.
00:59:23A lot of makeup, hair done, all that stuff.
00:59:29A full nine.
00:59:31She's, you know, subtweeting me and whatnot on Twitter.
00:59:34Is that true?
00:59:35I don't have him on Facebook.
00:59:36I don't have him on Twitter.
00:59:37I have him on no social media whatsoever.
00:59:40My Twitter's private.
00:59:41Judge McBain reminded Larson of what happened when he previously appeared in his court.
00:59:46The defendant then made a ridiculous claim.
01:00:07This is when Judge McBain became irate.
01:00:14You had a bad attitude.
01:00:16You had a bad attitude last time you were in court.
01:00:18You and her are buddy-buddy.
01:00:2045 days county jail.
01:00:22Oh, s***.
01:00:23Okay.
01:00:2493 days in the county jail.
01:00:26You want to go for a year?
01:00:28Try it right now.
01:00:29One more word on you.
01:00:31It'll be a year of counting.
01:00:33Over Facebook.
01:00:34Hey, bro.
01:00:3593 days in the county.
01:00:37I ain't never threatened.
01:00:38Stand up.
01:00:39Couple.
01:00:40Stand up.
01:00:41Buddy, buddy, mother s***.
01:00:43Stand up.
01:00:44You're going to a jail for a year in the county.
01:00:47365 days county jail.
01:00:49Can't do that s***.
01:00:51Appeal it.
01:00:52After learning his fate, Larson resisted arrest and made an aggressive move toward the victim.
01:00:57Put your hands behind your back.
01:00:59I'll leave you alone.
01:01:00I'm gonna leave you alone.
01:01:02Tell him right now.
01:01:03Put your hands behind your back.
01:01:06Put your hands behind your back.
01:01:09Judge McBain sprang into action.
01:01:11Chase this s*** right now.
01:01:13As Larson got into a scuffle with a deputy, the judge removed his black robe and joined
01:01:18the melee.
01:01:19Chase this s*** right now.
01:01:22Put it down.
01:01:26That's such a nut for you.
01:01:28Are you all right?
01:01:29Go over here.
01:01:30Get your hands right now.
01:01:31That's all.
01:01:32I'll toss you.
01:01:33While Judge McBain initially went up to a year in the heat of the moment, once everything
01:01:38calmed down, Larson was sentenced to 93 days in prison.
01:01:42While Jacob Larson got 90 days extra jail time for refusing to cooperate, what happens when
01:01:47a convict bursts out in rage?
01:01:49Like in the case of Elise Ortiz Nieves, who's on trial for s***ing a child in Grand Rapids,
01:01:55Michigan.
01:01:56You beat this s***, you bruised this s***, and you tortured this s***.
01:02:02On June 13, 2017, 25-year-old Ortiz was babysitting his girlfriend's seven children and her mobile
01:02:09home when one of them allegedly stopped breathing.
01:02:12When police arrived, they found cigarette marks and other injuries all over the body of
01:02:17four-year-old Giovanni Mejias.
01:02:19The trial presented evidence that the boy had seven blows to the head, cigarette burns,
01:02:24and broken ribs showing repeat abuse.
01:02:26Ortiz was arrested and sent to trial, where Giovanni's mother, Sonia Hernandez, testified
01:02:31in his defense.
01:02:32Did you ever witness Nelson physically discipline the kids?
01:02:38Never.
01:02:39She instead blamed her older son for bullying little Giovanni to death.
01:02:43Him.
01:02:44Suck him.
01:02:45Push him.
01:02:46He was just mean to him.
01:02:48However, an investigator said Giovanni was brutally beaten by an adult.
01:02:53The degree and the location and the number of injuries was remarkable.
01:02:58In my opinion, this injury is inflicted with blunt force from an adult individual.
01:03:05Eventually, Ortiz was convicted of felony murder.
01:03:09He maintained his innocence at sentencing, even offering to sit for a lie detector test.
01:03:14I'm going to continue to say I will take a lie detector test to prove that I never abused
01:03:18any of Sonia's kids or never abused Giovanni and never intentionally meant to hurt Giovanni,
01:03:23but to help him.
01:03:24But Judge Mark Trusok was having none of it.
01:03:27You can claim your innocence, but I sat over this trial and I carefully listened to all the
01:03:32testimony and the jury verdict was clearly correct in this matter.
01:03:37There is no question whatsoever that you committed this murder and that you beat this little
01:03:43to death.
01:03:44This is one of the most disgusting trials that I ever had to sit through.
01:03:49This is when things got crazy.
01:03:51I ain't going to let you sit here and say no crazy about me, man.
01:03:56No, man.
01:03:57He says he don't even know, man.
01:04:00Sir, the testimony showed that you put this child and other child in a shower with ice-cold
01:04:12water.
01:04:13As Judge Trusok continued with his scathing remarks, the defendant exploded.
01:04:38After he calmed down, Ortiz was brought back to finish the sentencing.
01:04:42this is a four-year-old that was victimized there is no question in my mind sir that you did this
01:04:52you are the lowest form of human life that i've been able to observe or see you are a monster
01:05:00and quite frankly you are evil ultimately ortiz was sentenced to life in prison without parole
01:05:06it was later discovered that sonia had prior knowledge about giovanni's abuse sonia was well
01:05:11aware she was well well aware of what was happening because she told him that was his responsibility to
01:05:18whoop them six months later sonia pleaded guilty to second degree child abuse and perjury in court
01:05:24my first charge is perjury i lied under oath for a man who i thought loved and cared for me
01:05:32my second is failure to protect my children and blaming a sibling on a sibling
01:05:38your honor signing my rights off was the hardest and most difficult decision i had to make she was
01:05:44sentenced to 57 months to 10 years behind bars while elise ortiz nieves blew up at his sentencing
01:05:51what happens when a defendant attacks his prosecutor for that we head to the otero county courthouse in
01:05:57roswell new mexico for the conviction of 31 year old michael cox jr cox was charged with criminal
01:06:04contact of a after he a young girl when the two were alone watching tv with the trial now concluded
01:06:11and cox found guilty judge jerry ritter called for a sidebar with attorneys from both sides
01:06:23as deputy district attorney scott key the man who just helped convict cox walked back to his seat
01:06:29cox unleashed on the unsuspecting prosecutor
01:06:42cox lunged at key and knocked him into the podium before taking a wild swing as key hit the ground
01:06:47he sprang up to his feet and responded with a few punches of his own
01:06:58deputy kadia smith rushed in and attempted to restrain the crazed convict
01:07:03i was able to get a hold of the defendant and use the least amount of force possible to go ahead and
01:07:08detain him with his courtroom in chaos judge ritter took control and ordered the room to be immediately
01:07:13cleared
01:07:22eventually cox was cuffed and hauled away from the courtroom
01:07:30ultimately cox was sentenced to 18 years in prison for his original conviction
