00:00let's jump right in let's get to the masters uh it was really exciting to say the least saw
00:04basically the entire round yesterday streaming it watching it on television rory mcelroy does
00:09take the masters but folks it was not without drama what a round for rory winning tied losing
00:15winning tied winning tied misses a final pot on 18 that could have given him the masters
00:20and then goes into a playoff round with justin rose and ends up knocking down a short putt to
00:28capture his first ever masters one of the most dramatic scenes you'll ever see at a golf course
00:34and it was at augusta yesterday all the emotions for rory as you see there on the ground
00:39and talking about dreaming about that moment coming true on sunday um it's uh look it's it's a dream come
00:48true i have i've dreamt about that moment for as long as i can remember um i mentioned it out in
00:56the prize ceremony but watching tiger here in 1997 do what he did and winning his first green jacket i
01:05think that inspired so many of my generation to to want to emulate what what he did and um
01:11you know there were points in my career where i i didn't know if um i would have this nice garment
01:19over my shoulders but uh i didn't make it easy today i certainly didn't make it easy i um i was
01:28nervous it was one of the toughest days i've ever had on the golf course in a funny way i feel like
01:33the double bogey at the first sort of settled my nerves um and it's funny walking to the second tee
01:39the first thing that popped into my head was john ram a couple of years ago making double
01:43and going on to win so you know i at least my mind was in the right place and was at least
01:49thinking positively about it but um just a a complete roller coaster of a day um you know it felt
01:55it was it was very tricky out there it almost felt more like a u.s open than a than a masters at some
02:01points just with how firm and fast the greens got but um yeah just really proud of of how i bounced back
02:08from um you know from the double on one from the double on 13 um i don't know if i don't know if
02:17any masters champions had four doubles during the week but um maybe i'm the first yeah it's uh it was
02:24a crazy round crazy couple of days for mcelroy who now has a grand slam title along with gene sarazen
02:29ben hogan gary player jack nicholas and tiger woods going down as one of now the greatest of all time
02:36all right so things have changed pretty quickly for the golden state warriors and maybe the regular
02:41season does mean something after all because dropping games at the end certainly did not work
02:46out for them the clippers beat the warriors 124 to 119 and la gets the 50 they'll play the nuggets in
02:53the first round but how about the warriors one of the hottest teams in the nba over the last couple
02:57of months but because of their struggles at the beginning of the season and look they're going to be
03:02headed to the play-in game and not the la clippers 124 to 119 was the final there steve kerr has been
03:10down this road before in the play-in also has been down the road for nba championships as well he sets
03:16the scene for what's to come next well um yeah we we got to turn the page quickly and uh and um you
03:23know move on to that game and you know so the guys will have tomorrow off we'll come in and have a
03:28walk through on uh tuesday and and ready to roll and uh great opportunity to uh to win a game and
03:35get into the playoffs which has been our goal this whole time steph um got through today it looked
03:41like healthy but how concerned are you about his thumb and also that he now will not have those days
03:47to rest and you have to turn around really quick well that's what makes uh tuesday's game really
03:51important you know it's um if we can uh take care of business then he'll have we will have four or
03:57five days before the first playoff game so um yeah i'm not worried about steph i mean sore thumb
04:04and i go seven for 12 from three and 36 points so steph is steph all right meanwhile the denver
04:12nuggets fired their coach fired their gm all of a sudden they do seem to be playing better basketball
04:16they get the number four seat in the western conference they beat the houston rockets who are
04:20already locked into the two 126 to 111 nikola yokich's season is now complete averaging a triple
04:28double how about that 29.6 points a game 12.7 rebounds a game and 10.2 assists their interim head
04:36coach his name is david adelman and he talked about how hard the nuggets appear to be playing over the
04:41last week or so well i think they're training the right way you know if we can play that hard and
04:48consistently communicate the way we are not just out on the court but at halftime the guys were great
04:52uh the communication was good and that's what we need you know we need a collective feeling of
04:59when things get tough we got each other's back and uh that's what i saw the last three games you know
05:05and that carries you through tough times i mean sacramento came back cut it to four memphis is up 15
05:10uh this game you know they hung around for a long time and i thought we just had a very
05:14tunnel vision type attitude which we have to take to you know these very different kind of games we're
05:21about to play meanwhile the oklahoma city thunder 68 wins on the season seventh best record all time
05:28115 to 100 they beat the new orleans pelicans as they cruise toward a final game and now toward the nba
05:35playoffs they'll be the one seed in the west and mark dagno not going to take away from the regular
05:39season but certainly says there's a lot bigger fish to fry coming up yeah i mean we we can we can
05:46appreciate and be grateful for the things we've accomplished and still be hungry both things can
05:51be true and you know we've got a young team um and i think it's important for them to understand
05:57some of the things they've accomplished you know franchise record for wins is a great accomplishment
06:02some of the other things that we've accomplished together are great accomplishments and
06:06we don't take them lightly we're grateful for them uh and we can still be hungry you know despite
06:11that so um it's an unbelievable regular season it's a special group of guys that deserve these sorts of
06:16things to happen for them uh and we've positioned ourselves really well you know we're playing well
06:21we're healthy as we head into the playoffs all right so the play-in games are set and they begin
06:27tomorrow night golden state will take on memphis where the warriors are seven point favorites
06:31and the dallas mavericks who have not played good baskets months somehow are in these play-in games
06:38they are the 10 seed and they play the sacramento kings they're the nine seed and sacramento
06:43five point favorites why they'll play those games i have no idea all right uh bad news for the chicago
06:49cubs they're playing good baseball but they're not going to have their ace justin steel for the
06:53remainder of the season he's going to have elbow surgery unclear if it's tommy john or what exactly
06:57but shoda imanaga is going to have to front this rotation uh going forward no doubt about that but
07:02meanwhile the dodgers have lost three games in a row and the cubs are playing good baseball okay
07:06p crow armstrong homer twice and the cubs win the series fortitude win yesterday over the la dodgers
07:13how about the giants are they hot or what jung ho lee remember when they signed him a couple of years ago
07:18he's proving to be pretty good the giants were down three they come back to beat the yankees
07:24five to four as new york starting pitching is not off to a good start you know who is off to a good
07:29start that is garrett crochet wow red socks he had 11 strikeouts he faced his former team in the
07:35chicago white socks he also had a no hitter going into the eighth inning it was the white socks i get
07:41it but still crochet has certainly done his job with boston and wouldn't you know the miami marlins are
07:46over 500 here in the month of april red hop matt mervis it's his fifth home run it's a three run home run
07:52and miami beats washington by a final of 11 to four pat evans is with us from legal sports report
08:00here on the show we're going to dive into the very latest on this lawsuit going on in the city of
08:05baltimore with uh draft kings we'll dive into that a whole lot more and uh pat does not have on the
08:10green jacket today i was you know the master i was waiting to see if pat was going to wear that green
08:15jacket here on the show pat but good looking color today for you here on the show did you watch
08:20yesterday's finish at the masters oh i sure did that was fun i was cheering for rory you know
08:24he had to get over that hump and funny enough i do have a jack nicholas golden bear green jacket that
08:30my grandpa gave to me a long time i should have worn it today today was a day i'll wear it on
08:36wednesday it won't make any sense but i'll wear it yeah people look at pat and say who is this pat
08:43evans on with craig here especially the people who've never seen you here with me before but
08:47all right we'll we'll root for that okay so let's start off here we we found out that finally we're
08:53going to have a new state that looks like they're inching closer and closer to legalizing sports
08:58betting in hawaii the next step is going to a conference committee to determine as to how much
09:05closer this gets you'll have to enlighten our viewers here of what this conference committee actually
09:10is yeah so hawaii is one of those states that you know as we entered the legislative session nobody
09:15had it on their radar they're one of two states without any form of legalized gambling the industry
09:21kind of just kind of puts it on the back burner and just says if something happens something happens
09:24and sure enough this year it has taken it took off in the past the furthest a sports betting bill got was
09:33through a house committee this year it's gotten through the house went to the senate got through
09:37the senate um and interestingly enough now it's back in the house or it was back in the house and they
09:42declined to concur with the amendments that the senate made so now it has to go to a conference
09:47committee what's interesting here is during the house discussions uh you know they they stripped
09:54the license fee and tax rate from the bill to spur more discussion you had a couple representatives
10:01saying you know this is too low for uh an industry that makes so much money like we need to get more
10:07money out of this and so then it goes to the senate they discuss it and the final senate committee
10:12they put back the original tax rate and license fee of 10 and i think it's 250 000 for a five-year
10:19license so that goes back to the house the house says wait we stripped this out because we wanted to
10:24talk about this and change it and uh so now it's going to the conference committee so that's what
10:28they're going to be talking about in the conference committee is you know can we bring up the tax rate a
10:33little or can we increase the license fee a little and get it there um and you know this is a speed
10:40bump in this big state that we haven't talked about much in the past because it's it's never gotten
10:46remotely close to this and this is a big cinderella story as i mentioned uh for this industry because
10:52again just a state that nobody talks about so this is a minor speed bump a conference committee you know
10:57you have other states where you know we've gone to conference committee uh you know say alabama which
11:03we'll talk about you know later this week probably again um and it just dies um i don't think that's
11:10the case here i think there's plenty of appetite as we've seen it passing both chambers um but
11:14certainly some things to iron out and certainly not a done deal but governor josh green does appear to
11:20signify that he will sign it if it does get through the conference committee so
11:24yeah a few things to iron out but a huge surprise for the industry if this does get through that final
11:31uh push here okay all right so we'll keep an eye on hawaii also you know something that could be
11:36considered landmark in the industry as well as the city of baltimore uh suing uh draft kings and fan
11:42duel essentially you know without getting into too many details i want people to read the story
11:47legal sports report but you know more or less stating that taking advantage of people who can't follow
11:52the rules on responsible uh gambling people who are addicted to gambling and you know i don't know
11:56if this is going to win or lose at all pat but i think a statement is trying to be made here by a city
12:02and i know other cities are going to be watching this very closely as well no it's a huge huge statement
12:07by the uh city of baltimore the mayor and city council have sued draft kings and fan duel
12:12um basically for deceptive uh behavior towards customers they say the bonus bets and things to
12:19attract consumers in is one of the issues that they have and then the others is the using of the
12:25hundreds of data points that they collect from users um to keep them betting and so that's where
12:32we're at we have a great um article up at at uh legal sports report by alan wilmot our legal analyst
12:39great breakdown i suggest you go read it but yeah basically the city feels that this is a national
12:46issue and that they're the first to really kind of take this on and they they think that more will
12:50come behind them uh whether it's the city or states or what have you you know we've seen a few like
12:57singular uh lawsuits by better saying that that they're the sports books are kind of doing them
13:03wrong but now this is a big one from this from the city of baltimore we'll see they said you know
13:09when i asked them i said is it just contained to draft kings and fan duel and they said for now
13:13uh but we could expand it to other sports books in the future depending on how this goes um so yeah
13:20it's it is just kind of raising this issue they said it's a national issue like i said um so we'll see
13:26what happens i think this is just kind of adding on to the headwinds we've been seeing uh from the
13:32industry towards the industry you know we've seen senators lawmakers from across the country both at a
13:38state and federal level talking about you know let's put in more protections let's kind of restrict
13:45what the sports books can do you know we've seen the richard blumenthal and paul tonko uh legislation
13:51at the federal level that would restrict the usage of things like bonus bets and uh promo bets and
13:58the use of ai to mine that data that you get from customers to kind of keep people in and so i think
14:05we're going to see more and more kind of talk from lawmakers on that and and whether or not this
14:10lawsuit does anything or goes anywhere i think it just kind of keeps that discussion going and seeing
14:15what you know is happening there yeah yeah i'll be keeping an eye on on seeing if another state jumps
14:22in and tries to do something similar to have some more restrictions and you know it's something to follow i
14:27think this summer okay so speaking of the summer summer and betting online online casinos that's
14:33something that i'm sure that the people in maine and arkansas would love to be doing but sounds like
14:38that's not going to be the case as we close out our segment yeah no i mean this is something we've
14:42known was coming was discussions on online casinos you know you've got nearing 40 states that have legal
14:49sports betting if hawaii gets it done this year um and so that that next step for the industry is more
14:55legal online casino states you know we have about seven uh michigan included here where i am and
15:01even that uptick or uptake of the legislators talking about this is really slow i mean entering
15:09this we had almost a dozen states that felt like talking about it or at least having online casino
15:13legislation introduced very quickly the virginia lawmakers said let's not touch it wyoming similarly
15:20said let's not go into that indiana you had a quick talk that well maybe it could get done
15:26they dropped it um and now you've got arkansas and maine both saying you know what let's go ahead and
15:31kind of punt this into the future arkansas is an interesting one they've got a a sports betting
15:37market that's unlike most others in the country you've got you know local casinos that run it because
15:42of a 51 revenue share rate and we before this session we even had cmo of uh saracen casino talking
15:51about opening up online casino by just amending the regulations uh to include the borders rather than the
15:58walls of casinos and the legislator didn't like that that much and then so they went in to talk about it
16:04uh legislatively and then they just said well let's do a study or and so they turned that bill into a
16:09study maine it would be kind of similarly through the tribes just like sports betting is um three of
16:17the four tribes are partnered with draft kings up there and then another one with caesars um and so
16:22they said you know let's go ahead and do online casino like that again they said no not too too quick
16:29we're not going to do it yet so yeah just more and more states just kind of pumping the brakes on
16:33online casino saying this is too much too fast for online gambling it seems like for for some
16:39legislators so uh i do expect more and more to talk about it again next year uh as we we kind of see
16:46this year kind of go by without any legalizations but uh yeah just two more states to say nope not
16:51this year on online casino all right fair enough pat great stuff we'll see you back here on wednesday
16:56i'll expect the uh jacket that the golf jacket that you have don't leave me hanging on wednesday
17:02they may ask i won't thanks thanks again for coming on really appreciate it thanks as always craig
