00:21and British and talk about the weather, but I've literally never been on. I've never worn a tank

00:32out, guns out, baby. Here's the good news. You're playing at like 8 something. 8.15,
00:38yeah, so it's going to be fine. But I'm getting suited and booted for the actual show. So you're
00:42going to be a little sweaty. But I mean, imagine these people that have to go on stage, like
00:47the main stage at like 4 o'clock or 3 o'clock. I know. Marina and the Diamonds is on right
00:51now in like some corset and this massive wig. And it's like, damn, you're a trooper.

01:00So dude, when you burst onto the scene with I like the way you kiss me. I mean, I tried
01:06to find information out about you. I looked you up. There was nothing because that's how
01:11fast you blew up. You know what I'm saying?
01:13I know. Yeah, it's crazy. So talk about how this all came about because I know you did
01:18some sessions in L.A. and then you just kind of like threw it up and then it went viral.
01:23Yeah, I don't know. I just around two years ago, like being like frustrated with like the
01:31process of putting out like long albums and like doing so much planning. I decided screw
01:36it. I'm just going to throw something on the Internet every few weeks. And yeah, it started
01:41working and kind of worked out a little bit. Now we're here, which is really cool.
01:45Dude, like over a billion streams on Spotify, right? It's insane. And I saw you sort of talking
01:51about how you'll be out and about at places. Your song comes on, people start dancing.
01:56Yeah, no one has a clue. And you're sitting right there and no one knows who you are.
01:58And it gets on my nerves actually. Yeah, that's me. And people are going to be like,
02:02okay, weirdo. Okay. Yeah, exactly. That exact thing happened in Poland.
02:06Oh, yeah. Yeah. I'm like, YouTube rises is my song. They're like, all right,
02:11the hell away from me. It's time for you to leave. I don't know if I can swear.
02:14They said, get them. Oh, my God. Well, people are going to start knowing you now.
02:19I know. Because I mean, how, how many times had you really done live performances before
02:25putting out, I like the way you kissed me? I had done like a fair bit of very like small
02:31shows. And like, I don't know, sometimes there were a couple of shows where it was just like
02:36my mom who showed up and there were like two girls in the front row that were really into
02:40it. Yeah. And I was still like, I was just like embarrassed. I didn't enjoy that process
02:48of like playing to nobody. Yeah, but it's a rite of passage. You know, you pay your dues.
02:53And then the next thing you know, you're on a stage at Coachella.
02:57I know. So how are you feeling about playing? I'm feeling like oddly optimistic and excited.
03:06Um, uh, I, I think it's going to be great. I've done like a bunch. I've basically been
03:12on the road since that song came out.
03:14Yeah. You've done a lot of shows and I'm really like not nervous right now, which is kind of
03:19unsettling. Cause I feel like I should be, you probably will like, right. Yeah. And it's the
03:24good nervous. Festivals are weird. Like you never really know what to expect, but you know,
03:28it's going to be great. The show is really, I think the show is really good. And we've got like
03:32all this new, like lighting spec specifically for Coachella. Yeah. And so I think that's going to be
03:38turn it up. And, um, yeah. So if you could bring out a special guest on, you know, cause
03:44you know, Coachella is all about bringing out a surprise guest, who would yours be? Who
03:49would mine be? Uh, Oh, it's a tough one. So like anyone, they have to be a musician. Could
04:00they be anyone? Sure. Anybody. Why not? Why not? Bring out Brad Pitt, you know, I'll go to talk
04:08about the environment for the environment. Yeah, exactly. Let's do it for the environment.
04:12Yeah. Yeah. I'm totally down for this. I love this. Okay. We need to talk about, because
04:17part of coming to Coachella when you're driving out here is you see all of these billboards
04:22along the way for all the different artists. I know we got a free one. Yours is like amazing.
04:28So we need to talk about how it is a couple of condoms and I'm going to show it and it says
04:35hit it from the back so you don't get attached. Obviously a fantastic lyric. I don't know if
04:40you can see this. Yeah. My, my, that's like my, um, Oscar wild moment. You hit it from the
04:48back. So, so you don't get it. That'll be on my gravestone. And, um, yeah. Legendary.
04:53And that's what, and I don't know. It's fun. Like I, I don't know. It's actually, it was
04:58kind of my manager's idea as well. And then we kind of beefed on it. I was like, that's stupid.
05:02Like I'm an artist. And he was like, no, you're the hit it from the back. And if you
05:08want a show, then we better, we better leave with that. We need to play it up. Yeah. No,
05:13dude, I think you take the cake with this. Like this may be like safety as well. You
05:19know? Oh my God. Total. It's protection. Yeah. Let's be smart. If we're going to hit
05:22it from the back, let's protect ourselves. Exactly. You know what I mean? Um, so what has
05:28been the most surreal moment for you over the last year or have you ever found yourself
05:34like being around a band or a celebrity where you're just like, Oh my God, how did I get
05:38here? Oh, what? Like celebrity wise or I don't know. There's like two weeks where the song
05:43was the most streamed song in the world for those for like 14 consecutive days. I don't
05:50really remember it very well. Cause I was drinking quite a lot during it and partying and enjoying
05:55it. Yeah. Good for you. And it, cause it did feel very surreal. I was like, that's
05:59ridiculous. Yeah. And, um, uh, that's probably the most surreal, surreal moment. So, and Coachella
06:06is going to be surreal. Um, but I don't know, it's just, um, hopefully just my life now is
06:13just going to be putting out music and I'm on this, I'm on this, uh, I'm on the road.
06:19You're on the trajectory. The last thing I want to tell you is when you did the, like a version
06:24and you covered Jeff Buckley, Grace, I did not expect that from you. I love Jeff Buckley
06:31so much. I love Jeff Buckley too. And I, that's a really ambitious song to go for. I know, I
06:35know. And you crushed it. You know, and, and not to toot my own horn, but like, you know,
06:40a lot of people are probably going to come to the set today thinking, Oh, it's the hit it
06:44from the back guy. Right. And hopefully the plan is to surprise them with some, you know,
06:51quite neat, controlled falsetto. Yes. And some, uh, other horny lyrics. Yeah.
06:57Oh yeah. We're going to, you know, we're going to keep it on brand. But also I think it's really
07:04cool that you're kind of showing people, Hey, I have this big range, you know, exactly. And
07:09you don't have to rely on, you know, using different sounds and you know what I mean?
