Mark Atkinson at Fir Park as Motherwell and Hearts are condemned to bottom-six football.
Transcript
00:00An afternoon of regret for both Motherwell and Hearts after they drew nil-nil here at
00:07Fir Park on the last round of fixtures before the split. It means that both have been consigned to
00:14bottom six football for the rest of the season in the Premiership after St Mirren won 3-2
00:2030 miles west in Paisley against Ross County. That means that they go above Hearts who would
00:28have gone into the top six had they won here. Motherwell in the end a victory would have done
00:32them no good whatsoever, they would have failed regardless. It was a really bitter blow in
00:36particular for the Hearts fans who were very angry at the end. Chance for Neil Critchley to go,
00:42chance for the board to be sacked, not a pleasant away end afterwards. To be honest,
00:46neither team deserved to win here at Fir Park. It was a really poor game of football,
00:51nervy and tense for a lot of it. Hearts had one big chance right at the end but Lawrence Shankland
00:56tugged his shot narrowly wide off the post. Motherwell huffed and puffed but they lacked
01:01genuine quality in the final third. St Mirren deserve enormous credit for rallying with two wins
01:08in their last three matches to get themselves above the Jambos. It's going to be a poor end to the
01:12season for Hearts if they fail to beat Aberdeen in the Scottish Cubs semi-finals next weekend. It will put
01:18pressure on Critchley who already has a number of fans to convince and also the club's board. For Motherwell,
01:25they'll be hoping to stave off any lingering threat of relegation but this point moves them
01:30clear of St Johnson and also Ross County. Neither team particularly happy at the end.
01:38It finished here at Fir Park. Motherwell nil, Hearts nil.
