00:00When it comes to the male-dominated field,
00:03of course, the representation of women in the field of law enforcement will not be lost.
00:09That's right, Meiji.
00:10That's why we got to know Ana Lira Reyes,
00:14the Chief of the Complaints Division Special Assistant of the Director for Media Relations and NBI Head Agent.
00:22Good morning to you and welcome to Rise and Shine Philippines.
00:24Good morning to all of you.
00:27Good morning, Ma'am Lira.
00:29Her job description is so heavy.
00:32You receive a lot of complaints every day.
00:34Yes, NBI.
00:36What was your inspiration to choose this career?
00:43Because I've been in this field for a long time, 36 years ago.
00:47I didn't see the inspiration right away if not for the opportunity because I'm a working student.
00:52So, because this is close to my school and my home,
00:56I accepted the job at NBI.
00:59But when I got older, I got to be with the noble and courageous law enforcers of NBI.
01:06That's where I got my inspiration to face the fact that one day,
01:11I'll be with the people who are enforcing the law.
01:15Wow, 36 years. Is that right?
01:18Yes, 36 years.
01:20So, it's not easy, right?
01:22In the same field, the so-called male-dominated field.
01:26What were your challenges, Ma'am, personally and also as a woman?
01:32There were a lot because you didn't ask.
01:36I was one of those who fulfilled the warrant of arrest for Jason Ivler,
01:42where I was shot.
01:44Oh, that was you?
01:45Yes, yes.
01:46Okay, we reported that.
01:4715 years ago, I was also a guest here.
01:50So, I was able to recover there.
01:53But with God's mercy, I was able to draw strength and courage from,
01:58of course, aside from praying,
02:00from the inspiration of my family, my three children,
02:04because I'm also a single mother.
02:06The recognition and trust of my mentors,
02:10of my colleagues,
02:11especially the leadership of NBI,
02:15gave me the strength and courage to do my daily work.
02:21Wow, truly inspirational.
02:24We followed that story before,
02:27and we watched it.
02:29It was really intense,
02:32because Ivler didn't give up.
02:35Then, he was shot, that woman.
02:39Maybe you can tell us about
02:42some weird or different complaints that you received.
02:47Because the case of Jason Ivler,
02:49even though it became famous internationally and nationally,
02:53that was just a normal fulfillment of the warrant of arrest.
02:57There was a case where a woman was found dead inside the house.
03:03Ironically, the prime suspect there
03:06was his sister, who was also a woman.
03:08She was really going to be arrested.
03:10But I thought that the case should be investigated properly,
03:14because we have a person
03:17whose future will be deprived
03:20if we make a mistake in the investigation.
03:22Thankfully, we were able to finish the case
03:27and we were able to catch the right person,
03:29their carpenter,
03:31who plotted against him.
03:34What's funny is that
03:36it became very memorable for me.
03:38The cue in this case
03:41was a plastic of chocolates.
03:43Why?
03:45Because they say
03:47that his sister was angry
03:49and that's why he planned to kill his sister.
03:53But because of the crime scene,
03:56we saw a bag of imported chocolates
04:00that was stolen by a thief
04:03and he tried to escape.
04:05That was the cue for me that
04:07his sister couldn't have done that.
04:09Luckily, through the technical expertise of the NBI also,
04:13we were able to solve the case properly.
04:19That's heavy.
04:21So that's what you face every day?
04:23Yes.
04:25We received almost 100 cases
04:29from the NBI
04:31and from many people
04:33who want justice now.
04:35Yes.
04:37That's one thing.
04:39You mentioned a lot of things
04:41like the stories
04:43that justice will be given
04:45and the law will be enforced.
04:47And you were recognized
04:49as one of the 10
04:51Outstanding Women in Law Enforcement
04:53and National Security.
04:55Why do you think
04:58women should be recognized
05:00especially in your field?
05:02Because recognition
05:04is not just for showing off
05:06or for posting on social media.
05:08Recognition is where
05:10we have more esteem
05:12and importance.
05:14And from these recognitions,
05:16we become better,
05:18we become braver,
05:20we have more drive
05:22to fulfill
05:24our purposes in life.
05:26Lastly,
05:28if there are young women
05:30who are hesitant
05:32to join a male-dominated field,
05:34what is your message
05:36to them?
05:38If there are young women
05:40who want to be
05:42law enforcers like us,
05:44maybe what we should see
05:46is that we are entering
05:48this field
05:50not to prove
05:52or to overcome.
05:55If we are going to enter this field,
05:57we need to feel the calling,
05:59we need to know
06:01our purpose.
06:03We need to know why
06:05we are going to enter this field.
06:07Number 2, our passion.
06:09If we have passion in our work,
06:11we know how to excel.
06:13And number 3,
06:15we need to know that our heart
06:17is in the field we are going to enter.
06:19You really impressed me.
06:21Thank you so much
06:23for your time.
