The Department for Transport has given the green light for £35.7m of funding for works on the Dawsons Corner junction and the Stanningley Bypass.

The Department for Transport has given the green light for £35.7 million worth of funding

to enable Leeds City Council to reconfigure the Dawson's Corner Junction and complete

joint replacement works on the Stanningley Bypass.

Proposed changes to the junction include widening the carriageway on the A6120 ring road and

the integration of pedestrian and cycle facilities at Dawson's Corner, linking in with the Leeds-Bradford

cycle superhighway. Dedicated bus lanes will also be installed on the A647 Bradford Road

to reduce bus journey times. The overall aims of the project are to reduce congestion and

delays and to improve air quality and traffic flow, alongside safer crossing facilities

for cyclists and pedestrians.

The third-party land required to build the scheme has been purchased and, subject to

contractor approvals, the main works are planned to start later this year and could take up

to 15 months to complete.
