00:00Good day and welcome to the Gulf News update for Wednesday, October 15. Here are your top
00:09stories at this hour. The world is falling behind in a desperate race to stop the deadly
00:14Ebola outbreak. A top UN official has warned amid dire predictions that thousands of new
00:19infections are possible before the end of the year. The World Health Organization, meanwhile,
00:24said the infection rate could soon reach 10,000 a week with a mortality rate of 70%.
00:30Australian writer Richard Flanagan has won the Booker Prize with a visceral book about
00:34wartime brutality and its aftermath. Flanagan drew on his father's experiences as a World
00:40War II prisoner of the Japanese for the narrow road to the deep north which centres on the
00:45Burma Death Railway. A gunman in Saudi Arabia opened fire on three American defence contractors
00:52killing one and wounding another before being arrested after a shootout with the police.
00:57The Saudi Interior Ministry said the suspect was a 24-year-old US-Saudi citizen born in
01:02Washington. The ministry also said the shooting stemmed from a workplace dispute.
01:08Dubai Petroleum Establishment has identified significant volumes of gas in its T02 deep
01:13gas exploration well. The high pressure and high temperature well was drilled 5,562 meters
01:21into the pre-cuff formation and is the deepest well in Dubai to date, the company said.
01:26Balkan rivalries cast a shadow over the 2016 European Cup Championship qualifying last
01:32night. A match between Serbia and Albania in Belgrade was abandoned after an Albanian
01:36flag, considered provocative by Serbian fans, was flown over the stadium by a drone. Elsewhere,
01:42Jon O'Shea celebrated his 100th cap by scoring in stoppage time to give Ireland a 1-1 draw
01:49with World Cup winners Germany.
01:51And finally, the weather. Today's high across the UAE will be 38 degrees Celsius, dropping
01:55to 28 degrees at night. That's all for now. Thank you for watching. And as always, you
