00:02 So one of the drills that I love to do on the passing green,
00:09 just to make sure that my club face
00:11 is returning to the ball square,
00:13 is I like to use, just on my Chrome Soft here,
00:15 I've got, I've actually got these three lines,
00:18 the triple track lines,
00:19 and I'm gonna use these as kind of a drill.
00:22 And very simply, what I'm gonna do is,
00:23 I'm just gonna aim at a target,
00:25 and I'm gonna point those lines,
00:27 literally directly at this target.
00:29 Now, when I take my putt,
00:31 and actually I'm gonna do this one,
00:33 I'm gonna hit quite a few putts doing this.
00:35 If I start closing the club face down,
00:37 what we're gonna see is those lines
00:39 are gonna start wobbling,
00:40 and the ball's gonna go off to the left.
00:42 If I do the opposite, and the club face is returning open,
00:45 again, those lines are just gonna start
00:47 wobbling off to the right.
00:48 So what I wanna do is just,
00:50 I've got a club of balls,
00:51 I'm just gonna hit a few towards the target,
00:53 and I just wanna see,
00:54 can I get these lines to just go
00:56 end over end towards the hole?
00:58 So let me just have a little go,
01:00 strike one just to the target.
01:02 So I missed it on the right,
01:06 and I could really see the lines
01:07 wobbling off to the right when I did that.
01:09 So I know the club face didn't close down well enough,
01:14 it was open through.
01:15 So I'm gonna do that again,
01:16 line it straight up to a target,
01:19 set up behind, and I'm just gonna try now
01:21 and close the club face down slightly,
01:24 just so I can really see those lines going end over end.
01:28 It's a really good way of using
01:30 the triple track technology to help your putting.
01:32 So for those of you that are really struggling
01:34 with distance control,
01:35 I've got a great little drill that I want you to try.
01:38 As we know, distance control really is king.
01:41 If you were to misread a putt by say three foot,
01:44 if your distance control is correct and is right,
01:47 the next putt is only a three footer.
01:49 So it makes a lot of sense to work on this part of the game.
01:52 Now, how do we do it?
01:53 So what I've got here is what we call a ladder drill.
01:56 I've just got a couple of stations here,
01:58 and you can set up, you can use cones
01:59 or I've just got alignment sticks.
02:01 And the idea is, is to putt a ball
02:03 and try and get it to stop within the station.
02:05 If I can do that, I then move on to the next.
02:08 If I get that one, I move on to the next one.
02:10 Now what I'm trying to do, if I fail,
02:12 if I hit it short or long,
02:14 I have to start the whole thing again.
02:16 So let's have a go.
02:17 First one in.
02:19 There's the first one.
02:24 And it's slightly longer.
02:28 (upbeat music)
02:31 And then the next station.
02:34 Let's go for the last.
02:36 So there I have it.
02:42 That's the ladder drill.
02:43 That's the station drill.
02:44 Give it a go.
02:45 Try and get all three.
02:46 And if you fail, you've got to start again.
02:49 I really hope that helps.
02:50 So here's a lovely little drill,
02:51 just to give you a bit of confidence
02:53 before you go out onto the golf course.
02:55 Unfortunately, what I see with so many players
02:58 on the putting green before they go onto the first tee,
03:01 is they've done a great little putting routine,
03:03 and they always finish exactly the same way,
03:05 just hitting a couple of balls to the hole.
03:08 The issue that I have with this
03:10 is it's kind of lose-lose practice,
03:12 because if you hole it from say two, three foot,
03:15 well, you kind of feel you should be holding that anyway.
03:17 So you haven't actually gained much.
03:19 But what happens if you miss?
03:21 Now, you could actually do this to some extremes
03:23 where you get a hundred balls.
03:25 You could hole 99 of them.
03:27 But if you miss one,
03:28 if you're faced with that on the golf course,
03:30 unfortunately, you will be thinking
03:32 of the one that you missed.
03:34 So what I like to do is take the hole out of play,
03:37 use something really small,
03:38 like I've got a tee peg here,
03:40 but you can use something small like a needle,
03:42 anything that just gives you,
03:43 take the hole out of it
03:44 and just give you a really small perception.
03:46 What I want you to do is just get a line of balls,
03:48 put them in a circle,
03:50 and actually just very simply just put towards the tee.
03:53 Now, if you miss it, it's not the end of the world,
03:55 as long as it didn't go too far either side
03:58 because it probably would have gone in.
04:00 But if you hit it, your confidence just grows
04:03 and you feel really good getting onto the first
04:05 if you're faced with this.
04:06 So let's have a go, see if I can hit the tee.
04:09 So you can see I've hit the tee there.
04:14 I'll move to the next one and I will keep doing this
04:16 and I will see how many times I can hit that tee.
04:19 So one of the things that always gets me on a passing green
04:22 before people go out and play golf
04:23 is they're always practicing with three golf balls.
04:27 And where this is really funny from a coach's perspective
04:30 is it's got nothing to do with the real life game
04:33 of actually adding a bit of pressure.
04:34 If you think of golf, you only get one go at it,
04:37 you get one opportunity.
04:38 Unfortunately, when you're practicing with three balls,
04:41 you get feedback, you can miss the first one short,
04:44 say you miss the second one long,
04:46 and then you get it right the third time.
04:48 Unfortunately, your brain is just adjusted
04:50 to the two previous shots.
04:52 What I like to try and do is this little setup station here
04:55 is the nine ball drill,
04:57 and it just adds some vital pressure to your putting.
05:00 And the way we do that is twofold.
05:02 What I want you to do is actually,
05:04 first of all, keep a score of how you do this,
05:07 but keep the shots as random as possible.
05:10 So I want you to, say, do the first one short,
05:13 move to a long, move to a medium,
05:15 keep mixing up the balls until you finish the nine balls.
05:19 I want you to hole out every single one,
05:22 and I really want you to get a score at the end of it.
05:25 So give the nine ball drill a go,
05:27 and watch your confidence grow.
