West Midlands Police has removed over 150 guns from Birmingham and the surrounding region, leading to a decrease in shootings and the imprisonment of numerous serious criminals.

00:13 The police force recovered 152 guns last year, up from 121 the previous year, and there were
00:20 fewer firearms discharges as well.
00:23 The release of the data comes on the first anniversary of the creation of the Major Crime
00:27 Unit, which consists of proactive and reactive teams. The teams have made significant arrests,
00:34 charged individuals for attempted murder, conducted successful manhunts and arrested
00:38 predatory sexual offenders.
00:41 Over £900,000 has been recovered through legal proceedings, with half being reinvested
00:46 in community safety.
00:48 West Midlands Police states that they are dedicated to maintaining pressure on criminal
00:52 gangs and ensuring the safety of communities.
