00:00 It's really exciting to go wall climbing.
00:05 Instead of getting into an accident, we're really going to have a good time.
00:09 Have you tried wall climbing before?
00:10 Not yet, but since I've watched this, we can try.
00:14 And couples can do bonding.
00:17 Yes, we can do bonding, Patrick.
00:19 But we're not really a couple.
00:21 But here, RSP,
00:22 a woman has returned home from the land of the moon.
00:28 Who is she? Let's watch.
00:31 It's true that we Filipinos are known for our talent in the arts.
00:38 From singing,
00:40 to painting,
00:45 the Filipino's great talent is unmatched.
00:49 And one of the people who gave our country its fame
00:53 is the artist from Bohol, Elvin Vitor.
00:56 Because he was able to receive the prestigious award
01:00 Leonardo da Vinci International Art Prize
01:03 which will be held on April 14 in Milan, Italy.
01:08 Elvin's works are full of his own originality
01:13 and love for the arts and our culture.
01:16 That's why we already know the Filipino artist Elvin Vitor
01:21 here in Rise and Shine, Philippines.
01:24 [music]
01:27 And to share his work and journey as a visual artist,
01:32 we will have Elvin Vitor this Tuesday morning.
01:36 Good morning and welcome to Rise and Shine, Philippines.
01:39 Elvin, we have Prof. Fie.
01:42 Yes, good morning, sir.
01:46 Hi, Elvin. Good morning.
01:49 Of course, congratulations.
01:52 Congratulations, Elvin, on winning the prestigious
01:56 Leonardo da Vinci International Art Prize.
01:59 What did you feel when you gave our country a new name
02:04 because of your work?
02:06 Thank you so much, ma'am, for the compliment.
02:15 It's like a Leonardo da Vinci award.
02:22 It's like an award to the artist,
02:24 maybe to the track record of the artist.
02:28 Leonardo da Vinci Award is not a competition.
02:31 It's like an awarding for the artistic merit of an artist.
02:35 The curators are scouting all over the world
02:38 to choose who can be awarded the Leonardo.
02:45 And then I was so grateful that we were chosen
02:49 because I'm just one of the few.
02:52 My aim is just to produce good quality of work.
02:55 Maybe they saw my postings through social media.
03:01 And then I'm very thankful for the opportunity that I got.
03:08 Elvin, congratulations again.
03:11 What's the story behind your winning art piece
03:14 which is a hyper surreal painting by Pedro Anco?
03:17 And what was your inspiration for creating this work?
03:24 My story is called "Kulbahinam na Laraw".
03:31 "Kulbahinam na Laraw" is my inspiration,
03:36 my drive to create more big paintings this year
03:40 because I was aiming to create big paintings this year.
03:44 So that's why I titled it "Kulba" means tense,
03:47 and then "Hina" means excitement,
03:50 and then "Laraw" means goal.
03:52 So it's like you're excited to achieve your goal.
04:01 So that's the meaning of my painting.
04:04 And then I was inspired with Pedro because of his physical feature.
04:09 And then he is also an artist and an environmentalist.
04:12 That's why I chose Pedro as my model in my painting.
04:19 And then a lot of elements are going with the painting
04:22 to include with my concept in "Kulbahinam na Laraw".
04:26 Wow!
04:29 We want to know also,
04:30 your work will also be part of the book
04:33 "The Contemporary Celebrity Masters Vol. 2, 2024".
04:37 What's your reaction to this
04:38 and what did you think of the readers of this book?
04:42 The painting will be included
04:48 in Leonardo da Vinci's book.
04:50 I'm really thankful to God that I have this opportunity
04:57 because as a Boholan,
05:01 it's my responsibility to represent Bohol in the international audience.
05:07 And then also the Filipino,
05:10 I must represent in the international audience
05:13 with my own identity and then my own culture.
05:17 They will also notice that there are artists like this in the Philippines or in Bohol.
05:23 That's why I'm really excited to see personally the book they will release.
05:33 Elvin, as a Filipino artist,
05:36 what's your message to other aspiring artists
05:39 who are following your footsteps
05:41 and you will also use the same success in the field of art?
05:45 I think it's line got cut off.
05:48 But of course, we are really grateful to the Filipino
05:52 especially that they are showing that they are from the field of art.
05:56 Yes, that's right.
05:57 Elvin, what's your message to other aspiring artists
06:02 who are following your footsteps
06:05 and you will also use the same success in the field of art?
06:10 My message to them is just dream big, aim high.
06:15 If you know that you have talent, just push it.
06:18 I know that if that is given by God to you,
06:23 possibly you are deserving to receive that kind of talent.
06:27 You must work out with your talent, you must develop
06:30 because we are just a steward here in this kind of talent.
06:35 So just push more and then develop it and then enhance it.
06:40 And then, just create your works that interposes the identity as a Filipino
06:47 that you can give value to your culture
06:52 because we are living in a short period of time
06:56 and then in the future years,
06:59 nothing will be left.
07:01 We will forget about people.
07:03 But if you have a contribution to the art community
07:06 or art scene in your province or in your community,
07:11 then you will be remembered for the future generations to come.
07:15 And then the future generation will be inspired by your story,
07:20 by your struggle as an artist.
07:22 So for me, if you are an artist, just push more
07:26 because a lot of people are not aware of the fact
07:30 that there are a lot of potentials of Filipinos
07:35 that will penetrate the international audience.
07:38 All of us have dreams.
07:41 And then, as a Filipino, we must encourage everyone
07:45 that let's not be negative that we can't do it.
07:54 Because I'm just a Bukolano.
07:56 But I really appreciated what God gave me today
08:00 and then there are opportunities like this.
08:03 So I'm really grateful to God always.
08:06 So that's it.
08:07 Elvin, of course, thank you very much for sharing your journey as a visual artist
08:13 and of course for your victory in the Leonardo da Vinci International Art Prize.
08:17 We talked with Elvin Vitor.
08:20 Again, thank you so much and congratulations, Elvin.
08:23 Thank you.
08:25 Thank you so much.
08:26 Thank you, sir. Thank you so much.
08:28 God bless.
08:29 God bless.
