00:00 Agi Demuro came to court with two speeches prepared.
00:07 As she left, she delivered the version she didn't want to.
00:13 It's outrageous, absolutely unbelievable that the court decided to grant him mercy even
00:20 though he showed Celeste none.
00:27 Celeste Mano's mother was furious that the man who murdered her daughter will one day
00:31 walk free.
00:32 That little trust I had left in this system has been completely destroyed.
00:37 Today Louay Seiko was jailed for 36 years. The 39-year-old has no prospects of freedom
00:42 until he's in his 60s.
00:44 The murder was a crime that shocked Melbourne. Hours after Ms Mano posted a photo online
00:49 with her new boyfriend, Seiko scaled a fence and broke into Ms Mano's house in the middle
00:54 of the night, stabbing her 23 times with a kitchen knife.
00:59 You carried out the attack with chilling efficiency, Justice Jane Dixon said.
01:03 Before her death Ms Mano rejected Seiko's romantic advances. He retaliated with a campaign
01:09 of cyber-stalking and bombarded her with text messages. Seiko then took the ultimate revenge,
01:16 killing Ms Mano as she slept in her own bed.
01:19 Seiko who has several mental illnesses has shown no remorse for his actions.
01:24 The sentence handed down today does come with a glimmer of hope for Seiko, a non-parole
01:28 period of 30 years. It means he won't be released until at least 2050 and that's only if parole
01:34 authorities believe the risk to the community can be managed.
01:38 I don't believe in parole. I don't believe in releasing murderers to murder again.
01:43 Ms Mano's loved ones believe she was failed by the justice system. They've campaigned
01:48 for stricter laws to target stalkers and for more help for victims.
01:53 These politicians are only interested in helping when they see numbers, nothing else. It's
02:00 not their kids, they are well protected.
02:03 While the state government has listened, there's been little in the way of reform since Ms
02:07 Mano's death.
