Leeds headlines 22 December: murder investigation launched after death of baby girl

Police have launched a murder investigation after a five-month-old was found in a “serious condition” in Woodhouse Moor on Wednesday. The baby girl was rushed to hospital but sadly died. The child's mother was arrested.

Next and people are being given the chance to share their views on next year’s budget for West Yorkshire Police. Views are being sought on a small increase to funding, which would equate to roughly twenty pence per week for the majority of the county’s households who are in Council Tax Bands A to C. 

And finally a new Christmas market has sparked high rates of festive footfall in Leeds city centre. Since the launch of the city’s new seasonal market three weeks ago, the city centre has seen its three busiest days since 2019.
