Guy Renard's Fatal Crash @ Spa-Francorchamps 1990 (Aftermath)

Belgian driver Guy Renard, 27-year-old, was killed in the early hours of Sunday, 22 July 1990, during the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. Shortly after midnight, he lost control of his 1.6-litre Toyota Corolla GT #19 and crashed hard into the barriers at the Raidillon.
The car rebounded onto the track and was struck by two other cars, the Ford Sierra RS Cosworth #68 driven by Britain's Alister Lyall and the Porsche Carrera 2 #54 of Belgian André Hardy. As a result of the collision, Renard's car erupted in flames.
Lyall and Hardy escaped serious injuries. The Fujitsu Ten-TOM's Toyota Team immediately withdrew their six cars from the race as a mark of respect.
A native of Malmedy, Belgium, Guy Renard shared his Toyota Corolla GT with fellow countrymen Damien Chaballe and Guy Peters. After the accident the event was stopped and racing resumed only more than two hours later. Johnny Cecotto-Markus Oestreich-Fabien Giroix, in a Schnitzer-BMW M3 Sport Evo eventually won the 24-hour race.
