Wales could cut a week off their school summer holidays

The long six week summer holiday could soon be a thing of the past for schools in Wales, as new plans outline a change to the way holiday is distributed throughout the academic year. Here's everything we know so far.

The Welsh government has announced that they could be reducing their school summer holiday break by one week. And will instead see an additional week off during the October half term. It is believed that the change could benefit families who struggle with child care costs during the summer holidays

and the additional costs associated with the summer break. Mark Drakeford's government has said that research into the matter suggests that staff and students find the autumn term tiring, and that having a two week break in October could be beneficial.

Not everyone is in favour of the plans though, with one Union claiming there is no evidence the change would help children's education. If the plans are approved, more changes could be made to the length of the summer holiday in the future. A decision will be made in the Spring.
