00:00 But the violence continues in Sudan.
00:02 More than 20 people were killed on Sunday in a suburb of the capital Khartoum after
00:07 shells hit a market.
00:09 The country has seen heavy fighting since April between the forces of Army Chief Abdel
00:14 Fatah al-Bruhan and the rapid support forces led by his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.
00:21 Violence that has left at least 10,000 people dead and millions displaced.
00:26 Our regional correspondent Olivia Bisou sent us this report.
00:28 It doesn't look like the peace talks taking place in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia between the
00:35 paramilitary rapid support forces and the Sudanese army are having that much of an impact.
00:41 The conflict is not only ongoing but it's also escalating.
00:46 Over the weekend, the paramilitary rapid support forces captured the capital of the state of
00:50 West Darfur, El-Dinina, as well as the cities of El-Fashir and Natiti.
00:56 This after the group seized control of Sudan's second largest city, Nyala, just last month.
01:02 Now the army has conceded these losses in Darfur but they've also said that they will
01:07 continue the fight against RSF.
01:10 On Sunday, 45 soldiers from the Sudanese army crossed the border into neighbouring Chad
01:16 to find refuge, joining hundreds of thousands of refugees who've been forced to flee their
01:22 homes because of the violence.
01:25 Now Darfur is home to a quarter of Sudan's population and it's seen some of the worst
01:30 fighting since the beginning of the war, which broke out in April.
01:35 Now the region is also seeing a rise, an outbreak of ethnic violence.
01:40 RSF originated in the region and they've been accused of committing atrocities against non-Arab
01:46 groups.
01:47 Now the escalating violence is also raising questions over the future of the country's
01:52 unity.
01:53 The scenario haunting Sudan is the Libyan one, in which the country could split and
01:59 become administered by different regimes.
