00:00 The Garden Report is brought to you by FanDuel, the exclusive wagering partner of the CLNS
00:04 Media Network.
00:05 Hey, Bobby Manning here.
00:08 Welcome to the Garden Report after the Celtics.
00:11 Beat the brakes off the Pacers, damn it.
00:14 155-104.
00:15 We talked about it a little bit on postgame, we talked about it after the game as Geno
00:19 Thompson started playing and all the rest.
00:21 This was the first time, as much as the comparison's been a little overplayed, almost cliche to
00:26 this point.
00:27 This was a 2008 kind of night where you were just miles ahead of this team that's pretty
00:32 good in the Pacers, even without Tyrese Halliburton.
00:36 The game's over halfway through the third quarter and the bench guys are racing up and
00:41 down the floor scoring.
00:43 It's just absolute domination.
00:45 This is the kind of team we're looking at right now.
00:46 A starting lineup that's, I don't have the numbers in front of me, but over 30 points
00:51 for 100 possessions, better than their opponents, and a dominant win margin through four games.
00:58 Yeah, I certainly had that vibe.
01:00 You talked about that in the fourth quarter.
01:01 You're like, "Oh, so is this what it was like?"
01:03 I'm like, "Something like that."
01:04 The starters watching from the fourth quarter on and cheering on the bench crew.
01:08 That's exactly what you saw in this game, right?
01:10 Especially in the last six minutes.
01:12 These guys are on their feet as if it's a two-point game, especially Al Horford just
01:15 cheering on, what was this, Hauser's three-pointers.
01:18 He almost caught that ridiculous reverse, which would have been crazy.
01:22 He certainly would have made it a sports center if he converted.
01:25 That's what you want to see.
01:26 That's what a team looks like, especially a team that's competing at a high level and
01:31 is on pace to potentially win a championship.
01:34 These are the beginning stages.
01:36 At the same time, yes, you don't want to get too excited.
01:38 It's week two of the regular season.
01:40 There are four in all.
01:42 They still got, what, 78 more games to go.
01:44 You see what this offense looks like compared to what it was last year.
01:49 It's like night and day.
01:51 It's easy to get excited.
01:52 It's easy to look ahead and say, "Which team is going to hand this Celtics team their first
01:57 L?"
01:58 But like Joe Mazzuola did after this game, right?
02:00 Brought everyone back down to earth in a sense of saying, "It's still a long way to go."
02:03 Finding that consistency and seeing what happened tonight is obviously a step in the right direction,
02:09 but it goes way beyond that.
02:11 FanDuel is the exclusive wagering partner of the CLNS Media Network.
02:15 Right now, new customers get $150 in bonus bets with any winning $5 Moneyline bet.
02:24 FanDuel, official partner of the NFL.
02:29 I feel like they've answered so many questions, too.
02:30 Are they going to post up more, create more flexibility in the offense?
02:33 And they've done that.
02:34 A bunch of that tonight as well.
02:36 Mid-range shots.
02:38 They're finding the mismatches.
02:39 The passing's been great.
02:40 They've used the point guards in late game offense, and they've been great in the clutch,
02:44 which obviously didn't happen tonight.
02:45 It wasn't necessary, but they've done it pretty much all.
02:49 Defensively, they're sharp.
02:50 Through the first three quarters, it's 27 or less each quarter here.
02:54 They held the pacers to 17 in the third.
02:56 So they're checking every box.
02:58 And you see the opponents coming up.
03:00 It's the Nets and the Sixers a couple of times who just offloaded James Harden.
03:05 It's tough to imagine a loss coming any time soon.
03:08 Obviously, they started 21-5 last year.
03:11 This could be, keep tossing around 2008, but this could be a 2009-style start here where
03:16 they were something in two, right?
03:18 Yeah, I mean, what was it?
03:19 19-3, I think it was?
03:21 Maybe it was 21-4, something like that.
03:23 I might be a little off.
03:24 Actually, I want to say it was even, but I might be confusing myself with the '09 team,
03:29 which believe it or not-
03:30 The '09 team we're talking about.
03:31 Oh, you're talking about the championship.
03:32 Okay, gotcha.
03:33 They got off to a better start than the championship team in the rest of its history.
03:37 Kevin Garnett got hurt.
03:38 So what's going to challenge this team?
03:39 What's going to push their back against the wall and actually force them to overcome some
03:44 adversity here?
03:45 Well, Philadelphia is an interesting one.
03:47 You think about what NB does and the sort of problems that he presents for his Celtics
03:52 team, but I can't wait to see what they look like.
03:53 I mean, preseason is a completely different sense of where this team is and then where
03:59 they are now.
04:00 I can't wait for that matchup.
04:01 But to answer your question, I can see them going down a similar path, whether it's compared
04:05 to last year with that quick start or even something better than that because of how
04:10 explosive this offense is.
04:11 I mean, it's just really hard to defend and I can't even on paper envision some of these
04:16 what, next four or five teams getting the best out of the Celtics.
04:21 Yeah, Minnesota's mixed in there too.
04:22 Philly is the one I want to see too.
04:24 Philly's the most interesting one.
04:25 Because indeed against Porzingis, the Celtics keep playing small.
04:28 It looks like they're going to stay that way.
04:29 Maxi is off to a great start on the season, but he tends to struggle against the Celtics
04:32 often.
04:33 So you wonder what that's going to look like.
04:34 But yeah, I mean, look, you wonder what that looks like because of the D&B factor.
04:38 But I mean, if you're seeing what we've been watching the last couple of weeks, you're
04:41 also thinking about, well, how is their backcourt going to handle Derek White and Drew Holliday?
04:45 I mean, it's just a completely different looking backcourt, even though Derek White was part
04:50 of this team last season.
04:51 He's just on a whole nother level in terms of his focus and what he's doing offensively.
04:55 Celtics win this one by 51, a ridiculous sum here.
04:59 A dominant performance, one of the most dominant I've seen on the beat.
05:03 This one blew me away.
05:04 I agree.
05:05 Same.
05:06 The adversity or just short-handed lineup could come as soon as Saturday, though.
05:08 Derek White expecting a child at some point over the next week or so here.
05:12 So maybe he's out Saturday.
05:14 Maybe he's not out at all.
05:15 A couple off days here.
05:16 Practice as well tomorrow.
05:17 And we'll have coverage of that.
05:18 We'll be in New York, Joe Sway and I. I don't know if we'll have a similar man on the street
05:22 type situation at Barclays Center.
05:24 We'll see what Brooklyn's like.
05:25 We'll see what it looks like.
05:26 Philly, certainly, heading down there for the second half.
05:29 Sixers fans won't disappoint.
05:31 Yeah, I'm going to-- yeah, we'll be ready for that.
05:33 All right, Joe Sway for Bowling Body Manning Celtics.
05:36 Unload on the Pacers here.
05:38 155-104.
05:39 And we'll have more coverage of this one on Celtics All Access, CNS Media, before we check
05:44 out the postgame show tonight.
05:46 Saturday, next game against the Nets.
05:48 Talk to you then.
