Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick said that shouting ‘jihad’ on the streets of the UK was an incitement to violence and he will raise the issue with the Met police after the force said they had not identified any offences being committed in a video featuring the chanting at a protest in London yesterday. 00:00 We respect the right to protest.
00:01 It's absolutely right that in this country
00:04 we have freedom of speech and the ability for people
00:07 to support causes.
00:09 And supporting the Palestinian people
00:11 is something that is entirely legitimate.
00:14 We support innocent people in Israel and in Palestine.
00:19 Our issue here is with Hamas, a prescribed terrorist
00:21 organization that has committed amongst the most
00:24 murderous and barbarous crimes for generations.
00:28 It is Hamas that we want to see degraded and eradicated.
00:31 And that is why we're supporting so strongly Israel.
00:35 It is important when people do protest or take part in rallies
00:40 that they show decency and civility and respect.
00:45 And there have been scenes in the last two weeks which
00:47 have fallen below those basic values, those British values.
00:51 And that is where both the police should and are
00:55 taking action.
00:56 And we should also be calling out those individuals
00:59 because it creates an atmosphere which is intimidating
01:02 to British Jews and to others.
01:04 That's wrong.
01:05 And I don't want to see that on our streets.
01:07 Shouting jihad on the streets of the UK in the context
01:11 that we saw yesterday was an incitement to violence.
01:15 That is wrong.
01:16 And it must not happen.
01:18 And there should be a bipartisan consensus in this country
01:22 that shouting jihad must never happen on our streets.
01:26 I was surprised by the analysis of the Metropolitan Police.
01:30 And that's something that we will be raising with them.
