Transcript
00:00 This is what we did during the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty
00:07 led by the National Anti-Poverty Commission of NAPC.
00:10 Let's watch this.
00:11 "Poverty is a great problem, not only in the Philippines, but in the whole world.
00:19 And even then, it is already being fought by the society.
00:23 In 1987, the World Day for Overcoming Extreme Poverty was held in Paris.
00:30 And in 1992, the United Nations General Assembly declared October 17
00:36 as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty
00:40 that is being fought all over the world."
00:42 "We are fighting this as a proof of our commitment,
00:47 of the commitment of the National Anti-Poverty Commission,
00:53 of our government, of our President, Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos,
00:58 to reduce the incidence of poverty."
01:01 The gathering was a success
01:04 because of the simultaneous wreath-laying rites
01:06 at the commemorative stone in Rizal Park and in other parts of the country
01:11 where the commemorative stone was installed
01:13 in Buenavista, Quezon, Barotac, Viejo Iloilo City,
01:17 Anini-I, Antique, Davao City, Misamis Occidental, and Agusan del Sur.
01:23 "As a proof of our commitment,
01:27 the National Anti-Poverty Commission is now focused
01:30 on the cause of the Magna Carta of the Poor.
01:34 So the programs that we are advocating are focused on
01:38 adequate food, adequate housing, decent work,
01:44 providing relevant and quality education,
01:48 and the highest standard of health."
01:50 The NAPC also helped in organizing the gathering
01:54 to fight poverty.
01:56 And one of the supporters of the NAPC's goal
02:00 is the local government of Manila
02:02 where Vice Mayor Yul Cervo is involved in organizing the gathering.
02:07 "I am a hands-on mayor of Lacuna
02:10 in giving programs that can help every Manileno family
02:15 who is going through obstacles and difficulties.
02:18 So there is a training program,
02:21 a livelihood program,
02:23 a job fair program,
02:25 and for the youth,
02:27 there are also workshop programs
02:30 so that you know the discipline for our youth."
02:34 The NAPC is encouraging the continuous service
02:37 and coordination of the NAPC
02:39 with various agencies
02:41 for a more stable and progressive service.
02:44 "In the next few months,
02:48 we will be working and coordinating with our local governments
02:53 in the rollout or the implementation
02:57 of their local poverty reduction action plan.
03:00 And for now, we will have a harmonization and convergence
03:05 of the programs of the national government agencies
03:08 with the programs of the local government units
03:10 that are supported by our local government."
