00:00 As October drew to a close in 1991, a large and powerful extra tropical cyclone
00:06 pounded the eastern seaboard. Known as the Halloween storm, it sent high winds
00:12 and waves crashing into the East Coast from New England all the way down to
00:15 North Carolina. It also absorbed grace, a short-lived category 2 hurricane. It was
00:21 considered a storm so severe that the National Weather Service dubbed it a
00:25 perfect storm. The culmination of how that storm intensified, utilizing the
00:31 warm moist air from a dying tropical storm, or actually in this case a
00:36 hurricane, made it quite a dramatic situation as far as how it got put
00:43 together. The Halloween storm took the lives of 12 people including six
00:48 Massachusetts fishermen. Many fishermen on the coast were taken off guard by the
00:52 storm's rapid development. The storm has been compared to 2012's deadly and
00:57 destructive super storm Sandy. To this day, the 1991 storm remains officially
01:03 unnamed. Reporting for AccuWeather, I'm meteorologist Jeff Cornish.
