00:00 We're on Skegness Central Beach which to be fair is looking pretty tidy today.
00:13 However Cleanipedia have just released a survey claiming that Skegness has the dirtiest beach.
00:22 Phil Gaskell you're from Coastal Access for all in Skegness and conduct lots of beach
00:28 cleans during the year.
00:31 This survey is a bit of a kick in the teeth for you isn't it?
00:34 Well not really it's done by people who don't know how to do a survey because we conduct
00:39 regular surveys on behalf of the Marine Conservation Society which we then submit and it shows
00:45 that Skegness is actually one of the cleanest beaches in the country and has got the least
00:49 bacteria because we don't have sewage outfall pipes like they have at Gleethorpes.
00:54 Which is certainly good news for everyone.
00:58 Now this survey has come out just before the annual Great British Beach Clean.
01:04 Are you taking part in that this year?
01:06 Yeah we've got one I've just got the dates written down here.
01:09 Sunday the 17th we'll be at Skegness North Beach at the ExCite Centre at 11am and then
01:15 we'll pack up and we're going up to Wynthorpe Beach at 2pm.
01:19 So volunteers very welcome.
01:22 Joking apart we haven't had a lot of rubbish on the beach to pick up from our last few
01:26 clean ups but we're hoping to.
01:27 Well hopefully the weather is as lovely as it is today and people can just enjoy being
01:32 on the beach and picking up a bit of litter.
01:35 Now we're also with John Byford our honoured citizen in Skegness.
01:40 Now you've seen this survey and you've heard what Phil has to say.
01:47 You have a little bit of a different opinion don't you?
01:50 Well there are issues in Skegness I mean you can't deny that.
01:54 On very very busy days the bins fill up very quickly and they need to be emptied as well
02:00 on a very regularly because we have bracing winds as you know and the rubbish can blow
02:07 about and it blows everywhere.
02:09 So I mean there are these issues need to be addressed by the district council.
02:13 I mean today it's absolutely beautiful down here all the bins are empty, the beach is
02:18 looking clean.
02:19 I mean with these surveys we seem to have a different survey every week.
02:24 One week it's telling us we're the best resort in the country, a week later we're being told
02:30 by a different survey we're one of the worst.
02:32 I mean I think the only way to really form an opinion is to come here and see for yourself
02:39 but today it's looking great so I'm pleased to say.
