As we move into the second half of August, AccuWeather forecasters are watching multiple areas for potential tropical storms in the Atlantic.
Transcript
00:00 Well, the tropics have been awakened.
00:01 I want to focus attention here
00:03 more specifically into the Atlantic.
00:05 Of course there's lots brewing out
00:07 into the Pacific and you want to
00:09 tune in here to the Accuweather
00:11 network for the latest on that.
00:13 Make sure you also have the hurricane tracker.
00:15 You can access that by downloading
00:17 the free Accuweather app right now.
00:19 First glance still notice how there's
00:21 a huge zone out over the open Atlantic
00:23 void of showers and thunderstorms.
00:25 Infrared satellite.
00:26 Why am I showing this one?
00:28 Why is it important while it's
00:30 showing limited thunderstorm coverage?
00:31 This colorizes the cloud tops.
00:33 The colder cloud tops showing you
00:35 where some of those tall vertical
00:37 towers of thunderstorms would be
00:38 developing not a lot of that right
00:41 now due to some of that dry,
00:43 dusty air in place.
00:44 Tropical systems love moisture.
00:45 They're all about the water and
00:47 unfortunately too much water in some
00:49 cases and wind but what happens
00:51 as we go down the road.
00:53 Let's break it down here with
00:55 regards to ingredients.
00:56 Lots of warm water in place.
00:58 Sea surface water temperatures
00:59 running above the historical average,
01:01 but what is also going to be changing?
01:03 This is key.
01:04 We're going to start to see
01:06 moisture advancing its way in,
01:07 so the dry,
01:08 dusty air will be waning the wind
01:10 shear that increase in wind shear
01:12 or the wind speed with height is
01:14 going to be reduced so there will
01:16 be some ingredients beginning
01:17 to mesh and mold together.
01:19 In fact,
01:19 some of that moisture is going to
01:21 make its way out into the Gulf of Mexico.
01:23 That's another zone we have to
01:25 look out for early next week.
01:27 In the mountains,
01:28 there will be widespread downpours
01:29 coming into Florida this weekend.
01:31 With a tropical wave,
01:32 alright,
01:32 here's the areas of interest we're
01:34 going to be following for you here
01:35 at the Accuweather Network when it
01:37 pertains to the Atlantic Basin next
01:39 couple of days will start to see
01:40 an uptick in potential production.
01:42 Medium development.
01:42 We cannot forget the Gulf of Mexico,
01:44 especially early next week.
