Glasgow headlines 23 June: Strathclyde student dies on Titanic submarine voyage

It has been revealed that one of the five men who died on the submersible dive to the Titanic wreckage was a student at Strathclyde University’s business school.

19-year-old Suleman Dawood joined the voyage with his father following the completion of the first year of his studies.

A family statement described Suleman as “a big fan of science fiction literature and learning new things.”

Next up, Glasgow City Council has removed a piece of street art that resembled the work of Banksy after a spokesperson for the artist confirmed it was not his.

The artwork appeared on Wednesday on a building just off Buchanan Street and included a rat playing the drums in Banksy’s signature style.

The council said anyone who wants a certain viewing of the artist should head to the exhibition at the GOMA.

And in other news, Glasgow Airport has warned holidaymakers that the terminal is facing its busiest season since 2019.

Half a million passengers are expected to pass through the airport over the next two weeks, and bosses are asking people to prepare and arrive at least three hours before an international flight.
