00:00 Good morning everybody, this is Philip Wilson, International Creative Director with Colorproof.
00:07 Ruth, Ted Mori, as you know we have been doing Facebook lives together forever.
00:13 Today Ruth will be working on the Grecian Braid, which is a fantastic design.
00:18 It's been used in a lot of our publications, a lot of our advertorial, editorial, it's amazing.
00:23 So she's going to walk you through this, second to none.
00:27 This is Ruth.
00:29 Okay, so we prepped our model today.
00:31 First we used the Pure Relief, which is right here, all over.
00:37 And then we also used the Heat Proof all over her from mid-shafts to end.
00:42 And then the Lifted Spray right at her root, blow dried it in over dry hair.
00:47 Afterwards went over like half section natural, half section crimped, half section natural,
00:54 I'm sorry, half inch natural, half inch crimped all over her head just to give her a lot more volume.
01:00 This is a really great technique when somebody has very, very fine hair and you just want some expansion.
01:06 And the reason that we crimped part of it and not all of it is so that there's like some smooth texture
01:12 that still be shine and mattness.
01:14 So I'm just going to curl the last couple of sections, combining her natural texture,
01:19 which is more of a smoother texture along with a crimp texture and creating a beautiful curl.
01:25 So this in itself, it's its own style.
01:28 I feel like this would be really fun to just wear out to a party.
01:31 I know Halloween just passed, but it would have been great for her costume.
01:35 But also it's just really good for somebody that wants it to be young, fresh, a little bit different
01:42 and just kind of stand out from the crowd.
01:45 So this texture in itself is like super, super workable, really, really pretty.
01:50 And we curled it just because whenever we're working with a braid or any sort of up styling,
01:56 that curl is going to make it so much easier for you to do.
01:59 So this is part of our spectrum collection from the Go Long.
02:05 And what we're going to do is first start off by parting the crown.
02:11 So we're going to take a circular section about two inches deep.
02:17 And on every person it's a little different.
02:20 So it just depends on your client's head shape, on how big you want that front braid to be,
02:29 and how you want to start off.
02:33 So again, just a circular section all the way around.
02:39 And you're just going to pin it out of the way.
02:42 And then the neater the sections are, the less pain your client will feel.
02:46 I feel like if you part really nice and neat, like everything is clean and you won't have those little pulling hairs.
02:51 So just really getting that nice and clean.
02:54 Although this section is not going to show, but it's just more for comfort for your clients.
03:01 So just twisting that out of the way.
03:04 So when you say comfort for your clients, you mean that you won't accidentally be grabbing hair as you're braiding?
03:08 Exactly. Yes.
03:10 So I find that it could be a really, really textured parting,
03:16 but the only thing is that all those little hairs, you may pull a little extra on it,
03:21 and it just won't be as comfortable for them.
03:24 So in braiding, although there's a lot of crimping, I want to also add a little bit of control.
03:31 So I'm going to use my Rule Breaker with Crazy Smooth.
03:37 I'm just using about a pea size, and I'm just going to add a little bit of Crazy Smooth Oil.
03:42 And I'm just going to emulsify that together on the back of my hand.
03:46 And just get it when I need it, and I'm just going to put that on my fingertips for now.
03:51 Well, the back of the hand, that's a very good idea, Ruth.
03:54 So we've got a hello from Geneva, Switzerland, from Lucky.
03:58 And Vincent Penley says, "Hi, Ruth."
04:00 Hi.
04:03 And Kristen says, "I love crimpers for volume."
04:06 Yes, they're the best.
04:09 Okay, so right in through here, I'm going to just part from the temple all the way to the top of the ear,
04:16 just because I want a little bit of hair to work with afterwards.
04:19 This you can tuck up, or you can utilize it.
04:23 You don't have to do this, but this just gives you a little bit of extra detail at the end.
04:29 Instead of everything having to be in a braid, to create softness, you just leave it out,
04:34 and then you can choose to take away that softness or utilize it.
04:39 So it just gives you a little bit of extra room to play with.
04:42 And you're doing that on both sides?
04:43 On both sides.
04:44 Great.
04:46 So now I'm going to just go in with my comb, and I'm just going to start a braid.
04:52 And then for--most of us know how to do a three-strand braid, but if you don't,
04:57 you can either go in or you can go out.
04:59 I'm going to choose to go--I want an outside braid, a braid that just kind of lays on the surface.
05:08 So I'm going to pull my strands in.
05:11 And if you know how to do a three-strand braid, you can definitely do a French braid.
05:15 So you just add a little bit of hair as you go.
05:18 And again, it doesn't have to be super, super neat.
05:21 It just has to be--you just have to have, like, that little bit of control.
05:29 So one thing when it comes to braiding is wherever that center piece is, right here, this is my center,
05:37 that's the heart of where the braid is going to lay.
05:40 So if that center piece is back here, that is where your braid is going to lay.
05:45 So I want it to lay right across her forehead.
05:48 So I'm keeping that center piece of the braid--and it's always moving because it always switches up.
05:55 I just cleaned that up a little bit.
06:00 And if you notice, I keep that little--like, the middle of the braid right where I want it,
06:11 and that's right across her forehead.
06:15 So I'm just adding as I go.
06:18 Bringing it forward.
06:23 And whenever I do this on somebody, and if they're in front of a mirror,
06:26 I let them know that it's going to be kind of weird-looking.
06:30 And that we're going to expand it later, and it's going to be fantastic.
06:36 So, like, if you're doing this on a client, just reassure them that it's going to look really great once you're done,
06:42 that it's going to be big and full, but that you really need to create that stability by having it be somewhat tight.
06:52 So, again, like, if your end starts to get tangled, just clean up the strands of your braid.
07:03 So you're feeding this braid from underneath through--could you feed it from the top, too?
07:10 It'd be looser then, right?
07:12 If you feed it from the top, you're going to get more of a French braid versus a braid that sits on top.
07:18 So it's going to be a completely different look, and you can absolutely do it,
07:23 but once we start expanding it, it's going to look more like a lobster tail versus a braid.
07:29 Got it. Completely different effect.
07:32 Completely different, but they would both be really interesting.
07:37 I feel like the other one would be a little bit more--like you would get more volume here versus the center.
07:44 And, again, like, you can't really tell that the crimping is in there just when we're making it nice and tight,
07:53 but when you start expanding that braid, that's when it's going to make the biggest difference.
07:59 And also, just depending on the part of the head that you're working on, change your body position.
08:05 Like, it's almost--styling is exactly like cutting.
08:08 Wherever your position, it's going to affect your style a lot.
08:14 So, again, I'm keeping my center braid closer to the front part just to create the right position for the braid.
08:30 And then the longer the hair is, the more you'll stop and smooth through.
08:36 Okay, so I'm going to take a clip.
08:42 And then we have some viewers also commenting that this is also known as the Dutch braid.
08:49 Perfect, yes. It has many names, and Dutch is one of them.
08:56 Okay, so also Chrissy is asking, "Why did you crimp it? Is it for texture?"
09:02 So, I crimped it for texture to have, like, matte and shiny and make it more interesting,
09:09 but also to create a lot of volume in her hair.
09:12 And I'm going to have you.
09:14 So, anytime you need to take a break, always just clip the last section that you went under,
09:23 and that will keep you nice and neat.
09:26 Yeah, so--let me find something. Perfect.
09:32 So, the texture works really well on somebody with super, super, super fine hair that wants a lot of volume,
09:41 or just something that--someone who just wants it to look, like, more bohemian, a little softer.
09:48 This can definitely be done with all smooth hair.
09:51 It doesn't have to be more matte finish.
09:56 I like the softness. I feel like it adds an element of interest, especially against that smooth texture,
10:04 because as I start pulling that out later, the light is going to reflect very differently against the smoother texture than the matte.
10:13 So, you're kind of getting, like, a matte and a shine.
10:15 So, it's going to look a lot more, like, reflective, but matte. It's pretty cool.
10:21 It photographs beautifully.
10:24 So, here, I don't want my braid to go low. I want it to stay high.
10:28 So, I'm going to change the position of where I keep my middle strand.
10:32 I want it to be a lot higher.
10:36 And then, as you start adding more hair, you just got to be mindful that you keep that under control.
10:45 So, I'm adding as I go.
10:48 And then, I'm going to have you tilt your head up.
10:52 So, this might feel a little awkward when you tilt someone's head up and you're braiding at their nape,
10:57 but if you have them look down how they most likely want to stay, you're going to get that little slack at the neck.
11:05 So, this is going to ensure that the nape of the neck is nice and neat and tight.
11:09 And it's going to make all the difference. It's going to just fit her head shape a lot better.
11:14 We've got some questions for you, Ruth.
11:16 So, one person who probably has just joined us wants to know what products you're using.
11:21 And another person is asking, how do you convince a client that it's okay to crimp their hair for texture if they start kind of freaking out?
11:28 It depends on the client.
11:31 If you want to, like say if they want a particular look, if they don't have enough hair,
11:37 you either have to convince them to put more hair in or crimp it.
11:41 Or it's not going to look as full as maybe the picture that they're showing you or as full as they want.
11:50 It's just a really good time to be as honest as possible and give them options versus just doing it and then be unhappy
11:59 or doing it and then them not understanding why it doesn't look the same.
12:04 And I think also when they have really fine hair, which she does,
12:10 if we just started straight with her hair the way it was, you would not see the expansion already that you see in this braid.
12:17 Rihanna's a perfect model for this because, yeah, her hair is really fine.
12:23 And I wish there was a before because this is really like volumizing her hair.
12:30 Okay, so once you're done, thank you.
12:35 Once you're done with that first halo of braid, you're going to go past just a little bit of the beginning right here.
12:45 That's where I started, right above the ear.
12:48 It's beautiful.
12:52 And then I'm going to clip this out of the way.
12:54 And I'm going to bring the hair from the top down.
13:01 So to answer, I don't know who asked the question, what product did I use?
13:06 I used Lift It at the root, right over here.
13:11 Lift It, Heatproof, and Pure Release.
13:21 And then when I was using my iron, I used Iron Master.
13:24 And right now I'm working with Rule Breaker and Crazy Smooth.
13:29 Great.
13:31 So I'm just putting a little bit more in my hand.
13:36 And this is really great if you don't want to get your hands super, super sticky, but you want your product available to you right away.
13:45 And that helps you just smooth each strand as you're working.
13:48 Exactly, because again, braids can get really messy if you don't use something to help you move and add some slip to the hair.
13:59 So right now what I'm doing is I'm going to just spread.
14:03 Okay, someone asked if you're just crimping what you're braiding, and she's braiding all the hair.
14:10 So yes, she crimps.
14:12 But not every strand, you did every third, correct?
14:15 So it's half inch of her own texture, half inch of crimping, half inch of her own section.
14:22 And I pretty much just took horizontal sections all the way up on the back and on the side.
14:30 So it was four quadrants, and just every other half inch is crimped.
14:34 So this is what's going to show, so I definitely want it to be nice and neat.
14:41 It's going to be in her face for a little bit.
14:44 So I'm going to first determine where my center of my crown is going to be.
14:49 And it's usually the center of their crown.
14:53 And it's going to look nice and balanced if you choose it.
14:56 You can do it higher, you can do it lower, it just depends.
14:58 But let's just use her own pet shape.
15:01 So now I'm going to divide it right where that braid ended.
15:09 Right here.
15:15 Take my clip, and then just restart to braid.
15:28 And now I'm only going to add hair to the inner strand.
15:34 So I'm going to take a little slice.
15:37 So you're picking up from where you left off with the other braid.
15:40 Exactly, and now I'm going to marry the first section and the second section.
15:45 We've got a loose little hair right here, so I'm just going to find its home.
15:49 There we go.
15:50 So that was crown forward, all the hair left on top.
15:53 Yep.
15:54 Okay.
15:55 So only adding to the inner strand as we move.
16:05 So just picking up little bits.
16:08 And you can pick up really big sections and have a more chunky braid.
16:14 Or you can take really, really fine sections and have more of a detailed, intricate braid.
16:22 It just depends on what you want your client's braid to look like.
16:26 And I'm going to bring this as far forward as I possibly can.
16:29 So again, keeping my middle braid a lot closer to the previous braid as possible.
16:36 Beautiful.
16:38 So you can start seeing it come together now.
16:41 And any time that your client has dimensional hair color, braids are going to show up really beautifully.
16:52 Absolutely.
16:54 And if anyone has seen the model that we did this on with the blue hair, I mean, it just looks so incredible.
17:01 And blondes, just anybody that has some sort of highlight, lighter ends, this just works so nice.
17:08 It shows off the color and it brings out the hairstyle.
17:11 And it just adds an extra layer of interest.
17:15 And if you see, these look really separated.
17:19 As we start pulling it apart, it's going to come together and look a lot more cohesive.
17:26 So again, just adding to the middle or the inner strand and keeping my center strand closer to the edge of her hair.
17:37 Is everyone really comfortable with braiding?
17:40 No, not everyone is.
17:42 A lot of people are saying, "I need to practice."
17:44 People are saying, "I've been braiding for 30 years and I still get the hair tangled and the ends."
17:49 You know, and it really is all about practice, but this is a great way to practice because it's supposed to look a little bohemian, a little messy, a little like Grecian, like she's on vacation on the isles.
18:02 It's definitely very forgiving.
18:04 And if you notice, another thing about the middle strand braid is that, and I didn't mention this before, is that whatever direction you're pulling it to, that's the direction your braid is going to go.
18:20 So if you want to control the direction as well, that middle strand is going to help you direct the direction.
18:29 It's going to help you guide where that braid is going to sit.
18:36 Okay, so question, where are we today?
18:39 We are at the Social Dry Lounge in Irvine, California.
18:44 And it actually rained today and it never rains in California, so people kind of freak out here.
18:48 So we're also going to be probably finishing with our Humidity RX, which we don't use that much in California.
18:54 Absolutely.
18:55 And then the next question, someone says, "Hi, they love you. They work."
18:58 Katie Felt worked with you for years and she says you're a beautiful person and an excellent stylist.
19:03 Hi, Katie!
19:04 So hi from Katie.
19:05 Oh my gosh.
19:06 And then there's a question about, "What are your thoughts about braiding wet hair?"
19:09 I feel like braiding wet hair is really challenging to do.
19:13 I think it's great if you want a super, super tight, tight braid.
19:18 I have nothing, I mean, other than the fact that it's going to give you a little bit of extra control, I think it's perfectly fine.
19:27 What I would do is I would use a product that's going to give you slip.
19:30 Like, if I was braiding somebody with super, super, with wet hair, I would probably use something like Crazy Smooth to just really detangle as I go.
19:41 Because I feel like it can get very, very tangled depending on the texture.
19:45 The other thing that can happen with wet hair, too, is you can have a much greater separation on the hair that you're pulling in.
19:51 So you can see more lines as you're directing hair in, right?
19:54 And it kind of tends to dry that way.
19:56 It doesn't look as soft.
19:58 Yeah, it's definitely not a soft finish.
20:00 It's definitely more of a polish or high shine finish.
20:04 And also, when somebody takes down wet hair from being, or dry hair that was braided wet, it's going to be extra curly and curled.
20:13 Which could be really cool.
20:15 The day after look.
20:17 Yeah, absolutely.
20:18 So this is the end of the adding to my braid.
20:23 So now I'm just going to take my braid and I'm just going to continue just about a couple of turns.
20:33 And I'm going to flip it.
20:36 And I would go all the way down, but I want to create a little bit of slack or leave slack so I can start pulling and utilize this length to fill in all the length over here, or all the fullness in here.
20:49 So I'm going to use some texture charge.
20:53 And as we get in close, you can see some of those crimped pieces.
21:02 So it just adds that beautiful extra texture.
21:04 And so depending on how tight of a braider you are, I'm going to just start from the beginning.
21:12 And when I pull out a braid, only pulling out the outer edges and holding on to that middle.
21:20 Like that, I consider this the heart of the braid.
21:24 If you pull the sections right in the heart of the braid, it's going to fall apart.
21:31 So I just pull the outer edges and just expand it and widen it that way.
21:37 And sometimes as it loosens up, as you pull out, it starts to loosen up.
21:47 But I'm going to show you how to make it tight and make it secure so that it won't start lifting off the head.
21:54 Because I don't know if it's ever happened to you.
21:57 You braid your hair, you pull it out, and then it starts lifting.
21:59 So there's like a one inch gap between like your scalp and the braid.
22:04 So there's a way to pin it down and secure it so that it just stays in place against the head the entire day.
22:11 So now you're starting to see like that smooth and then that crimp.
22:17 You can even get really fancy and just like pull out the crimp.
22:21 But I'm just pulling out the edges. I'm not really looking for the specific texture.
22:27 So Ruth, if someone had a lot of layers, could you still do this?
22:31 Oh, okay. Great question. Yes, you can definitely still do it.
22:35 And that's when all the prep work comes to help a lot.
22:41 So the more layers you have, the more it's important for it to be prepped correctly.
22:48 So by curling it, all those layers are going to tuck right in versus stick right out.
22:54 So if you curl it, it's completely fine.
22:57 And if something pokes out, that's okay, too, because if it's curled, you can just tuck it right back in
23:03 unless you want it to have those little bits coming out.
23:06 So someone's asking about texture charge.
23:09 So what product did you just spray before pulling the braids apart and why do you use that?
23:14 Texture charge is great for any sort of like work where you're wanting volume
23:19 and you want like a little bit more of a...
23:25 of a... the texture? Texture.
23:27 Yeah, pretty much.
23:30 It just makes the hair so easy to maneuver.
23:36 Like it's going to stay where you want it.
23:41 And I love the fact that it's a spray, so I feel like it's easy to control.
23:46 So I'm going back to the beginning, and this is all detail work.
23:51 So I'm just making sure that the front of her hair looks really nice.
23:55 And now that I've loosened all of this up, I can pull a little bit more from here.
24:03 And even though this braid, it was like so skinny and slim,
24:08 now that I've loosened all of this up, I can really get a lot of body.
24:16 Okay, so that's the first braid.
24:19 And I'm going to move on to the second, like loosening up the second braid.
24:23 For those of you who are just joining us, we are Colorproof, the Color Care Authority,
24:28 taking over behind the tera.com Facebook page today
24:32 at the Social Dry Lounge in Irvine, California, with Ruth Tedmory.
24:36 Hi.
24:38 So we're just continuing loosening up this braid.
24:43 And the more you loosen it up--like this one I just pulled out,
24:47 so whoever asked me if there's layers in someone's hair, this is exactly what will happen.
24:52 But because it's prepped, you can either leave it out, which I'm a big fan of,
24:56 or you can tuck it back in.
24:58 So those curls that you go in with in the beginning are really going to set you up
25:03 to just make it a lot easier.
25:05 Okay, question.
25:06 How many days would you recommend leaving braids in like this?
25:10 As long as somebody can handle it.
25:13 If it's comfortable on their head--
25:15 And it still looks great.
25:16 And it still looks good.
25:17 They can tie a scarf around their head if they want to go to sleep that way.
25:21 Something like this, I feel like it's meant to be a little bit fuzzy and messy.
25:25 So it's only going to get better as the days go on.
25:29 If something happens, like if it gets too roughed up, of course, don't leave it.
25:36 But at the same time, however--whatever's comfortable for your client or for you.
25:44 Okay, so we have another question about texture charge.
25:46 Is it more like a hairspray or does it have any wax qualities?
25:51 I would say it's more like a texturizer.
25:54 How would you describe it, Mary?
25:55 As a light-hold hairspray that doesn't add stickiness or tackiness.
25:59 Yeah, because I feel like it's called texture charge because it has charges.
26:04 And what it does, it forces the hair to separate or to--
26:10 Expand.
26:11 Expand.
26:12 So you're really going to get a lot of texture, a lot of volume.
26:15 And I guess it's not quite a dry shampoo.
26:20 It's not quite a hairspray.
26:21 It's just a really great--it gives it a really great grit to be able to maneuver the hair.
26:28 We have a question for the model.
26:30 Is she feeling like it's too tight for her?
26:32 So how does it feel, Brie?
26:33 It does not feel tight at all.
26:35 Okay.
26:37 So as I'm going through, again, wherever it was super, super tight, I'm going to go back in.
26:44 Like here, I felt like it was kind of tight.
26:46 Now that I've loosened more of the ends up, I can go back in where I couldn't expand it as much
26:52 and do a little extra expansion.
26:55 And now with the two layers of going back in, it just looks really pretty, really intricate.
27:02 So you have a question of what would you charge for this?
27:06 I would charge by the time.
27:08 So, like, whatever your haircut price is, if your haircut's taking an hour,
27:14 that's how much you should charge for a style.
27:17 If a style takes you longer than what a haircut would, just charge accordingly.
27:22 Just be fair to yourself.
27:28 So now that I'm done expanding the braid, so I have all of this left,
27:34 I'm just going to continue with my braid.
27:40 I love how this looks, so I might do a little bit more of that.
27:44 And now I'm going to just do it very, very loosely because this isn't part of the foundation or the base.
27:52 And you say that until the end because?
27:55 Oh, so that I have some room to work with.
27:58 I don't know if you noticed, but when I first started expanding the braid, this was really thick.
28:03 And now that I've expanded it, this is way less hair.
28:06 So all of this hair was utilized to expand this.
28:09 So that's why I don't braid all the way down.
28:11 And it will hurt less if it's less binded in a braid.
28:16 So definitely keeping your client's comfort in mind.
28:20 Makes sense. Thank you.
28:26 I'm just going to take an elastic.
28:29 Okay, someone is asking if you wouldn't mind just quickly reviewing how you prepped her hair with the crimping and curling.
28:36 So first I used heat proof from mid-shuff to end.
28:42 Lifted styling on her roots, blow dried it in with a mason just to get it nice and polished and smooth.
28:49 And I know it seems kind of intuitive because we're going to crimp it.
28:52 But I want whatever isn't crimped to just feel really polished.
28:57 And then afterwards went in quadrants.
29:02 Every other half inch section is crimped. Everything else is smooth.
29:07 Once everything was crimped, we just curled on top of it using Iron Master.
29:13 Excellent. Thank you.
29:15 So now I'm just going to find a home for this guy.
29:18 So you can either go forward, you can go up.
29:21 I think I'm going to go forward. I think it looks really pretty that way.
29:26 And I'm just going to take the elastic and loop it under a braid.
29:35 And I'm going to take another loop and I'm going to just loop that underneath another one.
29:42 And because this is so big and expanded, you can hide a lot of hair.
29:47 So even if you see the elastic a little bit, that's okay because we're going to go in and do a little bit more detailing.
29:55 I'm just going to pull this and just find a hiding spot for it. There we go.
30:05 There's questions about the crimping iron too. If you use a full size or a mini or does it matter?
30:10 It doesn't matter. It's whatever you have.
30:14 If I had a full size one, if I wanted a smaller crimp, I would just double over the crimping.
30:20 And if you have a mini one, it's going to take a little bit longer.
30:24 I use a medium size one and it's more of a mini crimp.
30:28 But it's more for the texture and expansion. So it's whatever you have on hand.
30:34 Zuzu from Canada says, "Hello, loving it." Madeline Matthews says, "Amazing."
30:41 "Name of the working spray you use to detail."
30:44 Oh, Texture Charge right here. And I'm going to use a little bit more.
30:49 So now that I've got, we're still going to tuck these back of course,
30:54 but what I'm going to do is I'm going to start using bobby pins.
30:59 And you want to use them like a needle and thread.
31:02 And this is going to help you from it rising off the head.
31:07 I don't know if you've ever seen that, but when the braid starts to lift off the head
31:12 and there's a weird gap in between, this is how you can prevent that.
31:17 Especially if you've really gone in there and expanded the braid.
31:20 So I'm just going to go in.
31:24 And almost like a needle and thread, just weaving back and forth
31:29 and making sure that it's against her scalp.
31:31 So this is to keep it from lifting. Exactly.
31:33 And moving around.
31:37 And you can put as many as you want.
31:39 And if somebody wants to sweep this in, I always suggest to my clients,
31:44 take out the bobby pins so that you're comfortable, and then put them back in.
31:48 And I'll teach them how to put them back in.
31:50 And they can feel it better on themselves when they do it.
31:53 So right now, if you want to flatten this out a little bit or expand the crown,
31:57 this is the time to do it because it's very movable.
32:07 Everyone is loving this look.
32:08 Someone asked about the wall, so we'll find out from the salon owner
32:12 and get you some information about that.
32:14 It is gorgeous. We love it too.
32:16 That was a really fun background to work with today.
32:20 And then waiting for the finished look, somebody asked,
32:22 "What can you use this on? Shorter lengths of hair?"
32:26 Absolutely, but just carefully.
32:29 I would say shoulder length or longer.
32:35 If you can get the nape and a braid, you can do a full style.
32:40 Or if it's a little bit shorter and they have a one-length hair,
32:44 you could also do a half braid.
32:48 It's more of a technique versus the look,
32:52 but if you want the exact look, shoulder length or longer.
32:54 So in through here, this is where you can start detailing and doing different things.
32:58 You can tuck it all in and make it super tight and super finished.
33:02 The reason I choose to leave this out is because sometimes when you're braiding,
33:06 you don't have that control and it won't look as finished if it's loose.
33:10 So you can make it super, super tight, super neat and just hide it.
33:14 And it just makes it look like, "Oh wow, how did they get that so clean?"
33:20 Or you could just take little bits of it like that.
33:24 She doesn't have any braids because she has nice healthy hair,
33:27 but sometimes people have layers or they have those little baby hairs.
33:32 So I'm just going to take little bits of it.
33:36 And you can create little softness around.
33:41 Beautiful.
33:45 This is more editorial, of course.
33:48 I feel like most clients won't want this, but you can make it nice and clean.
33:52 And you can definitely secure it as well.
33:58 So if you're in a hurry, you could just put all the hair into the braids, right?
34:03 Absolutely.
34:05 And I'll do that on this side.
34:07 I'll make it nice and neat so you'll have more of an editorial look
34:13 and more of what you would do on a client.
34:16 Okay, Ruth, we're getting, "As always, when you are featured with Color Proof on our live segments,
34:21 please tell us about your hair. People are going crazy for the color."
34:25 Yes, it is Ruth's natural hair.
34:28 Someone said, "Are you wearing a wig?"
34:30 That would be easier, wouldn't it?
34:32 That would be great. I wouldn't have to use so much baobab.
34:35 I wish.
34:37 So tell us about your hair.
34:39 It is bleached from root to end, and it is toned with Goldwell Icy--
34:46 oh, I'm sorry, Goldwell Silver Express Toner.
34:50 And you're a natural level?
34:52 I'm a natural level three.
34:54 So see how clean and neat that looks?
34:59 Should you want it?
35:01 It just looks like--I feel like it's kind of hard to achieve that if you're taking small sections with a braid.
35:07 So whether you leave the sideburns out and you use them to create more softness
35:12 or if you keep them nice and tight to just make it look like a more finished, more reflective around her face,
35:19 whatever you want to do, but I feel like it just makes it really simple to create a more polished look when you do that.
35:27 That's beautiful.
35:29 So when I do that, I'm just going to pull out a couple of pieces.
35:36 There's a little piece here.
35:38 Sticking out a bit, just using a bobby pin.
35:45 So any loops that stick up, you just weave through?
35:48 Exactly.
35:50 So then that way it looks nice and flat.
35:55 But again, if you like it to stick out a little bit, that's up to you.
36:00 And then I'm just going to finish it off with our anti-humidity spray, which is Humidity RX.
36:06 This is fantastic, especially for this time of year, for the rain, for the snow.
36:11 If you take a shower, it's really great.
36:14 It just keeps that style in a lot longer.
36:18 So you'll spray it in your hair before you shower?
36:21 Yeah, if you spray it in your hair before you shower, and then you put a shower cap on, it will prolong your blow dry.
36:28 That's pretty cool.
36:29 What do you guys think?
36:30 Gorgeous.
36:32 And again, this is the more softer finish, and then this is the more polished finish.
36:39 So it just depends on what you would like.
36:41 And again, we used the heat-proof mid-shafts through ends, blow dried it with a mason,
36:48 lift it on her root, Iron Master to do all our iron work,
36:53 because a crimper has to stay on there for at least a couple seconds, so definitely protect your client's hair.
36:59 Curling iron over the crimping, Rule Breaker with Crazy Smooth.
37:04 Beautiful.
37:06 Thank you.
37:07 Alright, thank you. Have a great day, everybody.
37:09 Bye everybody!
37:10 Bye, thank you for joining us.
