Sri Lanka's Acting President and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Wednesday declared a state of emergency in the country and a curfew in the Western province after protesters gathered near his office on Flower Road in Colombo.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's political parties have stepped up efforts to form an all-party government and subsequently elect a new President on July 20 to prevent the bankrupt nation from sliding further into anarchy.
