Death of MP Sir David Amess .. Boris Johnson makes statement

Boris Johnson was among colleagues from all parties hailing the veteran Conservative - who died after being attacked at a constituency surgery' as a 'true gent' and a 'decent' family man. And there was defiance that MPs must not bow to an 'attack on democracy' by refusing to meet voters face to face in future. Returning to Downing Street to address the shocking news after a Cabinet away-day in Bristol, the PM said: 'All our hears are full of shock and sadness.' Flags in Westminster are being flown at half-mast as a mark of respect to the 69-year-old, who had been an MP since 1983.
