A cauldron-shaped sundial from the Joseon Dynasty has been returned home from the United States.
According to the Cultural Heritage Administration, the 'Angbu-ilgu' public clock was returned to South Korea in August after it was bought at a U.S. auction.
Officials says they don't know when and how the clock was taken overseas.
'Angbu-ilgu' sundials were installed at busy downtown locations as far back as the reign of King Sejong.
This one though is presumed to be from the 18th or 19th century.
It shows meticulous craftsmanship with the hemisphere propped on dragon- and turtle-shaped legs.
The sundial will be on display from tomorrow until December 20th at the National Palace Museum of Korea.
