sar-e-taslim hai kham izn-e-uqubat ke baghair
hum to sarkar ke maddah hain khilat ke baghair

sar-barahna hun to kya gham hai ke ab shahr mein log
barguzida hue dastar-e-fazilat ke baghair

dekh tanha meri aawaz kahan tak pahunchi
kya safar tai nahin hote hain rifaqat ke baghair

ishq mein "mir" ke aadab na barto ki yahan
kaam chalta nahin ailan-e-mohabbat ke baghair

ret par thak ke gira hoon to hawa puchhti hai
aap is dasht mein kyun aae the wahshat ke baghair

سر تسلیم ہے خم اذن عقوبت کے بغیر
ہم تو سرکار کے مداح ہیں خلعت کے بغیر

سر برہنہ ہوں تو کیا غم ہے کہ اب شہر میں لوگ
برگزیدہ ہوئے دستار فضیلت کے بغیر

دیکھ تنہا مری آواز کہاں تک پہنچی
کیا سفر طے نہیں ہوتے ہیں رفاقت کے بغیر

عشق میں میرؔ کے آداب نہ برتو کہ یہاں
کام چلتا نہیں اعلان محبت کے بغیر

ریت پر تھک کے گرا ہوں تو ہوا پوچھتی ہے
آپ اس دشت میں کیوں آئے تھے وحشت کے بغیر
