The next day, the chicks left the nest-hole, confident and ready to take on the world, while their parents stayed close and constantly stood guard. Initially they were fed by the parents but soon learned to look for hidden grubs and larvae in tree bark cavities. The Brown-fronted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos auriceps) is a species of bird in the Picidae family. It is found in Afghanistan, India, Nepal, Pakistan.

Its natural habitats are temperate forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.

A medium-sized, pied woodpecker with yellow in crown. White-barred (rather than spotted) black. Underparts, prominent black moustache extending to breast and black-streaked white underparts. Vent deep pink. In male forecrown brown, centre yellow, rear red with black rear neck. In female whole crown yellow.
