Amazon's HQ2 to Reportedly Split Between Two Cities The update follows weekend reports naming select cities as front runners in the race for Amazon's second headquarters. 'The New York Times' reported a deal is in the works with in both Arlington, Virginia And the Long Island City neighborhood of New York City. Amazon originally said it would invest $5 billion and employ 50,000 people in the selected area. The company initially created a list of 238 cities and narrowed it down to 20 finalists in January. It's been more than a year since the company issued a call for proposals. Amazon's current HQ in Seattle has become a massive footprint, causing congestion and raising housing costs. Residents of many of the finalist cities have raised concerns that similar problems would follow wherever Amazon moves next.
