Following the Senate's decision, current President Juan Manuel Santos called for an extraordinary session in congress to extend the debate until the Senate makes a move.
The jurisdiction for peace is the mechanism of transitional justice created as part of the peace agreement to judge militants linked to the country's internal conflict.
