Errol Kong, neveu du célèbre producteur Leslie Kong (Beverley's Records), commence sa carrière au début des années soixante au sein du groupe The Jamaicans. Il chante par la suite avec The Prophets de Yabby You, ainsi que pour Lee « Scratch » Perry avec son duo Ricky & Bunny : Ricky Storm, son premier nom d'artiste, et Bunny Rugs, futur chanteur de Third World. En 1972, il enregistre son hit The Way It Is en compagnie des musiciens de Inner Circle, avant de sortir son premier album du même nom en 1976. Véritable joyaux du roots, les amateurs se l'arrachent à prix d'or jusqu'à ce que VP le represse en CD en 2006 et Iroko Records en vinyle en 2015. Il enregistre ensuite un second opus en 1982, Africa Calling, en Suisse lors de son unique venue en Europe.
Forgotten legend from the golden-age of Jamaican music, I Kong was back in the forefront in 2015 after 35 years of silence with A Little Walk, a showcase album unanimously acclaimed by the specialized critique and which was followed by a first European tour.
The author of unoverlookable hits like The Way It Is, Life's Road or Babylon Walls is back in 2016 with a new album: Pass It On. Accompanied by his Swiss band, Najavibes, as well as Judy Mowatt, Ken Boothe and Raging Fyah, the one Jamaicans name “Icon” delivers a new and unquestionably roots record, whose aim is to pass values, a culture and a music stemming from another time on to the young generations.
