Muslim surgeon FORGIVES man who stabbed him in attack outside mosque
A SURGEON stabbed in the neck outside a mosque says he “has no anger” towards his attacker. Speaking to Manchester Evening News, he said: "It’s shocking something like this can happen within our community."It happened from behind me. I was told later it was a knife in my neck. It was painful. As a surgeon, I could tell immediately none of the vital structures were affected. “I just put pressure on my neck. I probably only bled a little bit. “Looking back I was pragmatic about it because of my profession and my age. We phoned for the police and the ambulance and a lot of the other worshippers at the centre were supporting me. My main concern was that he wasn’t going to come in.“I think it was a totally non-personal random attack. I was just the person at that time. Waking up this morning, I would say I’m extremely lucky."Married Dr Kurdy is a father of two boys, aged 13 and 20, and 22-year-old daughter. The medic thanked the emergency services at the hospital where he works, and called them “incredible”.Police said they are treating the attack as a hate crime and confirmed they have arrested two men aged 54 and 32.Greater Manchester Police said: "Thanks to the quick response from our colleagues in the ambulance service, [the victim] is currently receiving treatment for his injuries.“He was attacked in broad daylight as he made his way to the mosque.
"While we are yet to gather all the evidence, we can be sure that there is no place for hate crime on our streets."We will do all that we can to take action against those who jeopardise the safety of others.“We have two people in custody who were arrested a short time after the call came in but need people who witnessed the attack or those who have information to contact us."Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.. 00FastNews.
