Hostage situation in Somali capital after car bombing leaves at least 12 dead

Gunmen posing as military forces took dozens of people hostage in a restaurant in Somalia's capital Mogadishu on Wednesday (14 June) after a car bomb attack, police said. At least 14 people have lost their lives, including two gunmen who were shot dead. The hostage situation began after a car bomb exploded at the restaurant gate, in an attack claimed by al Shabaab militants. The Islamist group is holding at least 20 people hostage, police said.
