Samoa Joe vs Shinsuke Nakamura NXT Championship NXT TakeOver Brooklyn

At last night’s taping of NXT at Full Sail University, the main event was announced for NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II, as well as matches involving Bayley and Bobby Roode. Last night on the WWE Network, fans got to see Rhino confront the NXT Champion Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura take on Finn Balor in the main event.

Shinsuke Nakamura recently confronted Finn Balor and declared that if he wants to become champion then he has to beat the icon. That match aired last night on the WWE Network, and it was a classic. After battling it out for nearly 30 minutes, Shinsuke Nakamura delivered the “Kinshasa” to claim a victory over Balor via a pinfall. Many fans are now asking the question if that puts Nakamura in line for a title match against the champion, Samoa Joe. At last night’s taping of NXT, that question was answered.

NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II airs live on the WWE Network August 20, the night before WWE’s SummerSlam pay-per-view. Last year at Takeover: Brooklyn, Bayley defeated Sasha Banks for the NXT Women’s Championship in one of the best matches of the year. Bayley held the title for 223 days until she lost the championship to “The Empress of Tomorrow” Asuka. Last night, Asuka and Bayley signed the championship rematch contract for Brooklyn II. Bayley’s career skyrocketed when she won her first championship, and it is poetic that she may just win her second title in the same arena where she won her first, Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.

Bobby Roode is a 20-year veteran of the sport and is the former TNA world heavyweight champion. He has held numerous other titles throughout his illustrious career and was part of the popular tag team known as Beer Money. Andrade Almas made a name for himself wrestling as La Sombre in the Mexico City-based promotion CMLL (translated World Wrestling Council) and has also wrestled for the Japan-based promotions of the IWGP (International Wrestling Grand Prix) and NJPW (New Japan Pro Wrestling). Almas and Roode will wrestle each other for the first time in NXT this August, and it should be a great match.

Shinsuke Nakamura has taken the WWE universe by storm ever since his WWE debut last April when he defeated Sami Zayn. The “King of Strong Style” has held many titles and is a former three-time IWGP heavyweight champion, and soon he will have the opportunity to win the NXT Championship. Last night, NXT’s general manager, William Regal, announced that Samoa Joe will defend his title against Nakamura at Takeover: Brooklyn II.

Samoa Joe has faced Nakamura before, but never for a television audience. Last April, PWTorch reported that Nakamura beat Samoa Joe at a non-televised event in Orlando, Florida, and many fans reported photos of the match via social media.

Both Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura are international superstars, holding many titles throughout the world. Joe and Nakamura are considered wrestling gods in Japan, and they are quickly building up that same reputation in NXT. Nakamura’s charisma and sheer athletic ability have quickly won over the hearts of the WWE Universe. Samoa Joe may be playing the role of a heel right now, but chants of “Joe is going to kill you” can still be heard throughout arenas every time he wrestles. The duo’s popularity, charisma, and athletic talent are a perfect fit for any main event.
