DETROIT — Elizabeth Rivera, 71, died after being mauled to death by a pet pit bull inside her own home.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Rivera lived with four pit bulls in her home in Southwest Detroit.

Police believe that around 8 p.m. on Saturday, one dog attacked the old lady and knocked her down. The pit bull then bit her on the throat, severing her jugular vein.

When Rivera’s granddaughter arrived home, she found her grandmother bleeding from the vicious mauling. Rivera died at the scene.

All four pit bulls were taken in by Animal Control.

WDIV reports that the dogs have no history of violent behavior, and authorities have yet to determine what caused the attack, and if only one or all four were involved.
