Secret Service agent has his gun and badge stolen in car robbery

WASHINGTON — A Secret Service agent was robbed of his badge and gun in the latest scandal to hit the beleaguered agency.

The agency confirmed on Tuesday the theft from the agent's car, which was parked near its headquarters in Washington, according to CNN.

A police report said that when the agent returned to his vehicle, he noticed a rear window was open and a black bag was missing.

Among the items stolen were a handgun, radio, handcuffs, a USB flash drive and a Secret Service badge.

The agency has been hit by several scandals in recent years.

In 2012 several Secret Service agents who were among President Barack Obama's security detail were fired after they were accused of hiring prostitutes on a trip to Colombia.

Meanwhile in the U.S., a man with a knife climbed the White House fence last year and got inside the building before he was subdued by agents.

Two drones have also landed at the White House under the agency's watch — including one piloted by an agent, which crashed on the lawn of the president's residence.
