Oscar De La Hoya thanks ‘boring’ Floyd Mayweather Jr. for retiring

Boxing great Oscar De La Hoya wanted to wish Floyd Mayweather Jr. a happy retirement — but not to celebrate the 49-0 boxer’s career. Instead, De La Hoya, who lost to Mayweather in 2007, wanted to thank him for never entering the boxing ring again.

“I’m writing to you today to wish you a fond farewell,” De La Hoya penned in his open letter to Mayweather in the December issue of Playboy magazine. “Truth be told, I’m not unhappy to see you retire. Neither are a lot of boxing fans. Scratch that. MOST boxing fans. Why? Because the fight game will be a better one without you in it.” De La Hoya saved his haymaker for the end of his letter, though. After suggesting Mayweather put his “true skills to work and open a used-car dealership or run a circus,” De La Hoya suggested he might want to return to “Dancing With the Stars.”
