HAWK are a noir alt. rock four-piece based in London. Julie, Matt, Chris, and Sam hail from various corners of the Ireland and the UK. Their sound has been described by Subba Culture as a "fusion of ambience and power" fronted by a "soaring, crackling vocal".
Lead singer Julie Hawk, who has been described as "a bit of the Bjork side of brilliant bonkers" (Artrocker), began collaborating with Matt Harris in 2012. After a year of garnering plaudits on the acoustic scene, the pair gained support from DJs such as Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson (BBC6Music). They teamed with Sam and Chris to form HAWK, adding new edge and expansion to their sound, while retaining the detail and delicacy of their acoustic roots. HAWK released their debut single 'Take Off Your Suit' in July 2013, to positive press. The Sound of Confusion described "the sharp, stammering beat and spiralling guitar lines" as "inventive and classic all at once." The band launched their debut record, 'The Sum of All Things EP' in early 2014, hitting the road with astring of UK dates and a tour of Ireland. No More Workhorse described them as "the surprise of the weekend" at Hard Working Class Heroes 2014. They're set to tour again in spring 2015, with the launch of their new EP, 'Clock Hands'.
