Crab in Grave Danger After Molting Its Shell

Crabs and other crustaceans cannot grow in a linear fashion like most other creatures. They are forced to shed, or molt, their shell and grow a new one. The process lasts approximately 15 minutes, and having cast off its heavy armor, the emergent crab is in a vulnerable position. This video captures the fascinating molting process, as well as the immediate aftermath when this unfortunate and unprotected crab encounters a sting ray. Credit: YouTube/Pink Tank Scuba
