Rockin’ n Rhythm - Ellington 1959

A spectacle of beautiful sound. I hope you can hook-up your computer to your full sound system. The soundquality of this clip is superb.
After a two minute introduction by Duke on the piano, mainly filmed from above, where the whole band knows the “classic” licks and sings along. Then with some very exciting drum accents the band comes in. The full saxophone section is standing up front. The balanced blend of sound from these players, who have been together for so many years is just astonishing. Gonsalves, Carney, Hamilton, Hodges and Procope...wow.
Then some great work from the main brass guys, Nance, Terry and Jackson. This one of the best versions I ever heard of this famous Ellington composition, which at that time, in 1959, already had been around for more than 30 years. Recorded at a concert in Zurich, Switzerland.
