The Squatters
Artist Kim Jei-min’s 7th solo exhibition “The Squatters” was recently held at the Nonbat Gallery. Using weak yet resilient weeds as the subject matter, Kim turned their resilient life force into pieces of art. The artist argues that urban weeds are similar to the lives of humans. Perhaps that’s why his pieces are so comforting. These “squatters,” which constantly come up in the city without being wanted or invited, are highly welcomed by Kim. They used to be merely plants, nothing more. However, when the artist paid attention to them, they became beautiful pieces of art.
