At least 25 people were killed in a series of bomb blasts in various parts of Baghdad, Iraq late on Monday (February 17).

According to Reuters, an explosive-laden minibus blew up at a bus station in the mainly Shi'ite district of Ur in northern Baghdad. At least 11 people were killed by the blast.

The New York Times reported that another car bomb went off near a public market in Baghdad's central Karrada district, killing nine civilians and wounded 30 others. A third bomb exploded in a market in Ghazaliya in the western part of the city. Four people were killed and 15 more were wounded. A fourth bomb exploded near a Shi'ite mosque in Amil district, killing two people and wounding nine more.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for any of the attacks. However, Shi'ites are often targeted by Sunni Islamists who have been gaining control in the country over the past year and have overran several towns in recent weeks.
