Missing AirAsia flight QZ8501: Search area expanded, more countries join in the search

Indonesia has expanded the search for the AirAsia flight which went missing on Sunday morning, with the international community offering assistance.
Indonesian authorities have expanded the ‘search sector’ for the missing AirAsia QZ8501 flight from four to seven.
Indonesia is set to scour the sea of three sectors. It has dispatched two C-130 aircraft, two Super Puma choppers, one CN-235 aircraft, a Dolphin helicopter and a Boeing 737 surveillance plane.
In terms of vessels, Indonesia has sent three motherships, six main vessels and four vessels with sonar system to join in the search.
Tasked with combing waters of two sectors, Malaysia has sent three aircraft and three vessels.
Singapore also provided assistance by sending two C-130 aircraft and three vessels, including a frigate, a corvette and a landing ship tank. The city-state also donated two sets of underwater locator beacon detectors, which are used to locate the black box.
Other countries, including South Korea, China, India, Britain and the United States, also offered to send ships and specialists, to help with the search.
The United States has sent USS Sampson, a guided missile destroyer, to assist with the search.
